Hey guys. Thought you would enjoy this mail pouch from this website claiming that Marino is just a great passer and not a great 'quarterback'. Myself and another guy sent some emails trying to debate them and they had the guts to respond. I don't think they answered us well enough and they even left out part of my email that talked about Tom Brady. Mine is from David Plunk. http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Mail_Pouch.php

The offseason is long and boring, especially in July, but this is such a tired debate, even I feel no need to get involved.

Thanks for the attempt at a discussion, but this has been hashed and re-hashed, and repeated too many times.

We all know Danny was great. Period.

For a Place that claims to have FACTS... sure does have lots of opinions.

All their claims are open for interpretation therefore cannot considered a fact. They only have "cold hard facts" if you are the site admins clone or you just cant think for yourself.

Marino was great....SB Ring or not :D

This is a tired debate among Dolphin and Marino fans. But to those who don't understand the issues and just accept what the media and those type of websites say about him, it isn't a tired debate. They don't understand the nature of the game and how you need a balanced offense and a good defense to win. That is what I am trying to do by responding to their articles and letting you guys know what they are doing.

If they would stop looking at stat pages and go back and actually WATCH tapes of Dan Marino, they wouldnt be making dumb statements like that. But, since Marino never got his ring, this debate will go on. People that dont understand that football is a team game will continue to down play the greatness of, in my opinion, the best QB to ever play the game.

Nicely said, Dan was the greatest and that's all that needs to be said. If you feel the need to argue against it, just watch Dan's old film or look at all of his records.

bottom line dan was the greatest,he never i mean never had a running back, he never had a great defense and in most years a pretty pathetic defense, never had a dominating line, and in 18 years, duper, clayton and fryar were his best receivers.
I love the dolphins but beside dan and dwight stevenson for a few years, who did he really have.
The best players i can think of were richmond webb, john offerdal,aj duhe,no safetys, no cornerbacks, nothin,it actually makes me angry to think that our organization was so bad at evaluating talent.
We wasted his talent,
Man i'am bitter right now.
Please don't write back that luis oliver, tony paige and keith jackson were great, average at best and they were all we had.
Sorry Dan,your still the greatest

Insert Dan into Brady's spot with the Patriots when they have won their championships. In fact insert Dan into any SB winning QB's spot. They'd be close to unbeatable. Absolutely no way he'd be inferior to any of those guys.

There is no debate in my opinion. People who try to argue that he was a great "passer" and not a great "quarterback" are those who do not have any clue about the game of football. Last time I checked, the primary job of a quarterback is to "throw" the football. Quarterback's are not there to tackle people, intercept passes, block, catch.

A great quaterback is the type of guy who is a field general, that takes charge of a game, which Marino was the best at. A quarterback fires up his players, which nobody had that "look" in his eye like Marino, and you know when he had that glare, that the other team was in trouble.

A quarterback leads his team down the field, and scores. Nobody put up the numbers like Marino, past or present. Numbers do not lie, and you can not argue his stats. He has the 2nd best winning percentage in NFL history, only 1 win behind the all time leader in Elway.

Just because he does not have a ring on his finger, does not count against his ability as a quarterback. He was the best at that position in NFL history, and the only other guy that you can even possibly argue that comes close to him is Elway.

Football is the ultimate team game, and guys like Montana and Brady were drafted onto solid teams with great coaching, players, systems, etc.

Neither of them carried a team on their back, like Marino did for over a decade. Those guys just happen to be on great teams, therefore have championships.

If you compared those guys to Marino as far as a quarterback goes, and just based it on that, neither of them had or have the skills of Marino.

Nobody could pick apart a defense better than Marino, nobody could read the blitz better than Marino. Nobody could thread a needle between 2 defenders better than Marino, nobody could put that touch on the ball like Marino. And nobody threw a better pass than Marino. Those are all the types of things you have to take into consideration when measuring a quarterback. Not just..." oh well so and so has rings, and Marino does not" That is just flat out stupid to try and compare a player simply on the fact if he has won a championship or not, especially in football, the greatest team game in sports.

Bottom line is, Marino is the greatest "quarterback" in NFL history.

Well said.

a point id like to make about interceptions is that even the most perfect pass in the world can still be intercepted by a cb or safety that works to get it. if this idiot watched the games he would see that most of dan's interceptions in the games were from defenders going up and fighting for them. not bad passes

picks

I believe a large percentage of Marino's interceptions were actually tipped/bobbled passes by the receivers.

I've heard a lot of speculation about Marino being a real prick in the locker room and a force with the front office. Spending money on a running game means less attention brought on Dan. I've heard a lot of rumors and conspiracy theory about Marino not wanting a good running back in Miami and the money he had them spend on himself and receivers hurt the chance for a big D. Dan wanted what he got, personal credit. He was more about passing records than super bowls. period.

As long as Dan was at QB set to pass, we had a chance to score. What more could you want out of a quarterback, besides being a team player which Dan was?

I remember Marino reconstructing his contract on a couple different occasions in order for Miami to allow more cap room so they could go after free agents. I think he would of rather had the rings, than the records.

He was so good, he would of broke all those records anyway, even if he had won superbowls.
