Dan "The Man" has spoken:

We asked Dolphins great, Hall of Famer and CBS NFL analyst Dan Marino about the Orton rumors, the Bush trade and if Henne can win in Miami.

"As a team, your responsibility is to look and see if you can improve your team in all areas," Marino told CBSSports.com. "I guess [the Dolphins] felt at the time that Kyle Orton -- if they could trade for him at the right number -- might be an improvement [over Henne]. …

"Chad Henne did not have a good year last year but I still think he has the talent to be a good NFL quarterback. It's just a matter of time as far as continuing to put people around him. I think Reggie Bush is going to be a great addition because he's got that big-play ability. One thing it looked like the Dolphins didn't have last year was that quick-strike where they're getting 20 or 30-yard chunks. That's one of the things they've been missing and so far, [Bush] has looked pretty good. And if he stays healthy he can add a lot."

Don't get me wrong I'm a Henne supporter, but he says this every year. As he should I guess.

Standing behind the franchise. I wonder what he is saying off the record.

I agree with him. I also agree talent means little if it isn't exploited.

He could still be OK someday, maybe like a Kyle Orton type ceiling. The problem is he's learning way too slow and we'll have moved on long before he ever reaches his potential. As an example, Beck could be a top 5 QB this year but that doesn't mean we were wrong to move on from him. We should have already moved on from Henne imo even though he could be a NFL starter in this league someday.

So *could* Henne. Hell, so *could* Curtis Painter, but I'm not holding my breath.

Henne's ceiling is Favre, his floor is Doug Johnson.

Marino has always been a Henne crotch sniffer.. and I agree.. Henne COULD be a great NFL Quarterback... if it was 1950... But in today's league, he is outmatched and outclassed...

You are right no player is guaranteed to succeed in any system or in the NFL. Look what the Eagles coaches did for Vick and the Bengals did for Benson. My only argument with Henne is he is still making the same mistakes he made 30 games ago.

I think the big point is the statement that the Dolphins need to continue to put pieces around Chad. Dont get me wrong, I have felt the Dolphins talent, especially on the offensive line the last few years has been way below par, thus hurting the QB in pass protection, hurting the running game, and thus again putting more pressure on Henne and the passing game.

Now,say what you will, I ammnot a Henne apologist,or an excuse day in and out for him,or for anyone else who lines up behind center for us, I am just stating the facts as I have saw them for the past few years.

We have upgraded a lot this year on the offensive line and hopefully this will help him and the running game as well,so if all goes well and there are no major injuries, this needs to be the year for Henne one way or another, either step up and play big and take that next step,or we need to seriously make a move up in next years draft to move up to get a top QB with potential. There are about 4,5,6 guys in next years draft with that possible upside, potential, and if Henne cant get the job done this year,we need to make that move. But, I do say he deserves this 1 shot with the upgraded players we have around him before we throw in the towel completely is all.

He's bad but not that horrible. I think Marino is trying to stand behind his franchise, he isn't praising Henne in anyway. He said he could be good. HE COULD.

Well I think we should take Dan's word for it, but idk. Hopefully Henne can develop and be a good qb. Who would we hope he turns out like? Big Ben? Rivers? maybe Flacco-ish?

Dan is very politically correct when he speaks...

what he should have said is this.

Dan Henning really set this offense and chad henne back a few steps.
