If the colts win the superbowl will Manning be seen as better than Dan Marino. In my opinion Dan was the best and no one will ever get even close.:dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins:

Is Trent Dilfer a better QB? How about Jim McMahon? I will always say that winning the Super Bowl is a team accomplishment. If you want to judge a player individually look at the individual stats!

****And don't tell me he could never win the big one. Dan threw TD passes in 13 straight playoff games and TD passes in 16 of the 18 playoff games he played in.

Marino is the best pure passer to play the game. I wouldn't consider Marino the best quarterback to play the game. I think if Manning can win a SB or two and he stays on pace for the numbers he's gonna put up. He'll be known as the greatest QB to play the game.

Very nice post man and I agree completely. It's not quarterback vs. quarterback, it's team vs. team.

If the Bears win the Super Bowl, the "Trent Dilfer has a ring" defence used in debates to defend Dan Marino will be changed to "Rex Grossman has a ring".

I think if Manning can win a SB or two and he stays on pace for the numbers he's gonna put up. He'll be known as the greatest QB to play the game.

Just think how many Super Bowls Marino would have, if he was in his prime playing with all the talent on the Colts?... I guarantee Indy would have at least 2 rings by now.

You guys are using Trent Difler as a scapegoat. It's unfair to compare him to people like Brett Farve and John Elway, whose put up numbers like Marino (not as high, but you get the point), and still have won a Super Bowl. No one is saying Trent Difler is a better QB than Marino, but putting "Super Bowl champion" is pretty impressive if you have flashy numbers too. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Marino fan, I still feel that he's the greatest pure passer to ever throw a football... But he just wasn't the greatest QB in the game. ALthough I would NEVER put Steve Young or Joe Montana ahead of Marino, those two are vastly overrated.

No, it will not make Manning better. Manning has had a better team and cast. Even though, Marino has had a good cast, I always felt that Manninghas had a better cast. Another factors is Peyton had a really good rb in Edgerrin James for many seasons, and then Joseph Addai has played well and is a good rb, and I think has done well in replacing James. Who has Marino had at rb? Sammie Smith, Bernie Parmelee? Miami's running back sucked, and even though Manning was a big part of the offense, he could still feel comfortable that James or now, Addai would gets yards on the ground. Whereas Marino threw so many times, and he literally did carry the team on his shoulders.

One of the funniest quotes I've heard on the matter (forgot where its from), but it basically said that whichever QB wins the super bowl isnt necessarily the best QB in the league. The way it was put, some QB's that couldnt have held Marino's jock if they were on the phins, have SB rings. But the NFL isnt always fair.

I am a HUGE Marino fan. I only missed two Marino home games throughout his career. But Manning will hold every passing record by the time his career is over. And more likely than not, he will win a Super Bowl too. But having said that, I can think of no other QB, who by himself, put more fear in the hearts of opposing teams than Dan Marino. But for the first 6 years of his career, Marino was surrounded by a mediocre supporting cast. Additionally, every pass he made had the excitement and flair of Ali in boxing. Manning will be considered the best NFL QB of all-time when his career is over. But if they ask me, Marino is tops.

if marino was with a team like the colts dan would have had a minimum of 2 rings

if dan had a running back with the same caliber as edgerin james or wr's like wayne/harrison

dan marino is the greatest qb to ever play the game, no one has the mix of power arm/ability to read a defense like dan

peyton has the same build and model and is a great qb and could be 2nd to dan when said and done, but no one touches dan the man

Elway was on the wrong end of some of the worst Super Bowl blowouts ever. You're probably too young to have seen them but what I'm saying is that getting there is a team effort and anybody will get it right if his team gets him there enough times. There are other factors too, Manning should have been to a Super Bowl 3 or 4 years ago. Thanks to the Pats he didn't make it. Dan's Pats were the Bills of the early 90s. Miami was not built to beat the Bills then. The teams that beat them in those Super Bowls were physical teams that could run and play good defense. They could slow down that innovative new no huddle offense Marv was running up there. Dan Marino could barely get on the field when they played Buffalo in those games.

I hate to say this but the reason Dan didn't win a Super Bowl was Don Shula. I watched a lot of his postseason games and the times that they came up short were always because they couldn't grind it out and wear down the other team. Guys like thurman thomas or natrone means would do that to them. Dan wouldn't even get on the field and by the time he did heroics were needed. He was the best but he was human. He couldn't always pull it off. Honestly I don't remember how hard Shula tried to find a legitimate RB or field a real defense but it never seemed to happen. Jimmy came along and made the defense good but failed miserably at finding a running back for Dan.

To sum things up - Dan Marino is without a doubt the greatest QB of all time. He did not cave under pressure but he happened to have the misfortune of his TEAM coming up short. He also had the misfortune of his only Super Bowl appearance being against one of the most dominant dynasties in the history of the league. Dan was beat but Elway was humiliated against those same 49ers. Biggest Super Bowl rout ever.

I like Peyton but Marino was more electrifying than he will ever be. That and the NFL wasn't working their butts off to make it easier for offenses to score either. DBs could get away with more in Dan's day and he didn't play half of his games in a dome. Manning will break the records but that doesn't mean that much. Marino was great because of how far ahead of his time he was. His ability was and still is unmatched.

even tho ur all rite and marino is better and a superbowl is a team effort, manning will be looked at as better then marino becaus ehe has a ring, so
GOOOO BEARSSSS

You are going to punish someone like Manning because he had a good supporting cast? Is it a requirement for a good requirement to have garbage surrounding him? Okay, lets trade away all of our offensive talent for scrubs just to prove that our QB is a great QB.

So great talent like Chambers needs a great QB to throw to, but a QB is overrated when they have great talent around them? You can't have it both ways.

A great QB is a great QB. PERIOD. Both Marino and Manning are the best pure QBs in their respective eras.
