at the end of this interview marino talks about how he always felt it was important to win that first game, especially at home. talked about how statistically u lose those first 2 and teams just dont make the playoffs. my point is, alot of people saying its just one game etc. thats not entirely true. its one game against a divisional opponent at home. in other words its a game the had to win, and for exactly the reasons marino gave in this interview.
miami isnt going to beat new england in new england if they cant beat them at home. we just dont have the talent in the secondary to match up, and at this point its too late to figure out maybe we need 4 corners that can play going into the season. this means we have to go 10-4 in all the rest of our games, in all likelihood, to make the playoffs. thats a really tall task with their schedule.
what i dont understand is, with this in mind, why wasnt every move, every roster decision in the offseason, every coaching decision, every decision on player cuts - made with new england week one in mind?
why werent the best 46 players active for new england? and how do u go into a game with 3rd down back, and another back u arent willing to hand the ball to as your only 2 guys? clearly LJ was never going to get a touch unless somebody got hurt, because he only had a couple weeks in camp (but whose fault is that?)
reggie bush played 75 snaps.
these guys werent ready for new england and its a joke when you have an entire offseason to prepare for this game.
say what u will, but as an example, jim tressell, from the second he arrived at ohio st. had one singular focus and instilled that in his players. beat michigan. ohio st couldnt beat michigan before he got there. the couldnt lose to them after he arrived. he was focused on that game
tom brady was focused on this game. they knew if they win it they can in a sense knockout their opponent in week one. now the do the same to the jets at ny and is there any doubt who wins the east? its only two games but realistically does anybody else even have a chance if they do that? NO.
so its not just one game. its a HOME game against a division opponent thats good enough to make the playoffs. in otherwords, its a game you must win if you want to goto the playoffs. we wont beat new england in new england. which means we are already fighting for 1 of 2 wild cards. after week one - thats not good folks.
entire offseason to prepare. ignorant roster decisions not focused on beating a division rival at home week one. too worried about what might happen in week 8 or 10 or 16. u dont win week one, it doesnt matter what happens the last week of the season, cause theyll be on the couch for the playoffs.
it was ignorant to cut one of our top three dbs prior to week one. and it was ignorant to goto camp with 3 backs.
these guys cant get it done, and its really as simple as the things above. if they cant get the simple **** right how on earth can they handle the important stuff?
