at the end of this interview marino talks about how he always felt it was important to win that first game, especially at home. talked about how statistically u lose those first 2 and teams just dont make the playoffs. my point is, alot of people saying its just one game etc. thats not entirely true. its one game against a divisional opponent at home. in other words its a game the had to win, and for exactly the reasons marino gave in this interview.

miami isnt going to beat new england in new england if they cant beat them at home. we just dont have the talent in the secondary to match up, and at this point its too late to figure out maybe we need 4 corners that can play going into the season. this means we have to go 10-4 in all the rest of our games, in all likelihood, to make the playoffs. thats a really tall task with their schedule.

what i dont understand is, with this in mind, why wasnt every move, every roster decision in the offseason, every coaching decision, every decision on player cuts - made with new england week one in mind?

why werent the best 46 players active for new england? and how do u go into a game with 3rd down back, and another back u arent willing to hand the ball to as your only 2 guys? clearly LJ was never going to get a touch unless somebody got hurt, because he only had a couple weeks in camp (but whose fault is that?)

reggie bush played 75 snaps.

these guys werent ready for new england and its a joke when you have an entire offseason to prepare for this game.

say what u will, but as an example, jim tressell, from the second he arrived at ohio st. had one singular focus and instilled that in his players. beat michigan. ohio st couldnt beat michigan before he got there. the couldnt lose to them after he arrived. he was focused on that game

tom brady was focused on this game. they knew if they win it they can in a sense knockout their opponent in week one. now the do the same to the jets at ny and is there any doubt who wins the east? its only two games but realistically does anybody else even have a chance if they do that? NO.

so its not just one game. its a HOME game against a division opponent thats good enough to make the playoffs. in otherwords, its a game you must win if you want to goto the playoffs. we wont beat new england in new england. which means we are already fighting for 1 of 2 wild cards. after week one - thats not good folks.

entire offseason to prepare. ignorant roster decisions not focused on beating a division rival at home week one. too worried about what might happen in week 8 or 10 or 16. u dont win week one, it doesnt matter what happens the last week of the season, cause theyll be on the couch for the playoffs.

it was ignorant to cut one of our top three dbs prior to week one. and it was ignorant to goto camp with 3 backs.

these guys cant get it done, and its really as simple as the things above. if they cant get the simple **** right how on earth can they handle the important stuff?

I think this is a load of BS, we started off 0-2 when we finished 11-5 in 08

Game 1 is always important. The game against Houston in 03 comes to mind. That was the difference in making the playoffs that year.

However, NE is likely a 12 to 14 win team again this year, and it is very likely that they will win the division. We are fighting for a WC spot. It is also likely that NE will beat the Jets and Bills, so this loss really does not hurt all that much in the grand scheme of things. As long as they can improve on D and continue the play good offensive, they should be fine.

its not bs. its the facts. look at the facts. did we lose week one to the pats at home? nope. we won that game. was brady out for the year? yep. give me a break the jets werent the jets yet, and we went 11-5 in a week division without brady. u really think miami goes to the playoffs that year if brady doesnt get hurt? are u nuts?

look at the facts. or u can hold onto ur pipedream. i like this team more than any weve had under sparano. they might for the first time ever not a complete eyesore on the field. doesnt matter. they didnt handle business at home against the division opponent they needed to overtake.
MARINO said it. ok? so its not a joke. he thinks it too. get with the program.

it doesnt hurt? have u looked at pittsburgh and baltimores schedules? after week one we are already playing for the 6th seed. and u basically said it yourself. u dont play for a wildcard. u take care of business in ur own division. we didnt. and we didnt prepare to either. we treated it like it was an other game. the fact is it wasnt. it was important on way too many levels to count, and we didnt act like it was.

I totally agree with you that the regime is the largest failure.. but to address spending all off season to prep for NE.. and how important the first game of the season is..

I just did the math, I counted all the wins and all the losses of all the NFL teams during the 1st week and believe it or not.. the split was exactly 50%.. half of them won, half lost..

There were some good points here brought up, especially the one with Tressel making it clear to his players how important it is beating Michigan every year. We need a coach like that who understands how important the divisional games are, especially the games against New England. Let's face it... the Patriots are the team to beat in the division every year, Rex Ryan knows itwhich is why he has draft guys like Derrele Revis with Tom Brady in mind. I would love it if the Dolphins had a head coach like Tressel or Gruden, they understand the game and know which team you have to beat in your division if you want to win the championship.

Let's not compare this season to what happened a few years ago. This is a new year and different set of circumstances with a totally different outcome.

Jeep has not lost his mind. Dallas spend years building a team that could beat the 49ers. That was the goal of Dallas, because they knew they would be nothing if they were not built to beat San Fran.

so i guess half the teams that start 0-2 make the playoffs as well with this logic right?

i guess the odds of making the playoffs just improved! what the hell was i thinking? great point bub.....lets make sure we lose to the jets at home and well be on our way! hoorah!!!

To say we can't beat the Patriots up in N.E. is a joke...we can beat any team on Any Given Sunday! This is a good football team and I don't give a crap what Tom Jackson or the rest of ESPN boneheads think!

Losing to New England at home is something most teams do... talk about knee-jerks. These fans are unbelievable. The same fans that are saying the season is over are the same ones that weren't giving us a chance to win in the first place. I live in NJ and these fans remind me of Mets fans. Love to complain about how bad the team is and how horrible the front office is, despite the fact they have 0 experience with coaching and sports management. Why bother even watching the Dolphins if you're not going to give them a chance.

Yes, it's bad to lose a division game at home (which we did to the Jets the year we won the division). Yes, the defense got torched (which is what always happens to a team playing NE after a bye or a season opener).

The defense will be solid this year and the Dolphins will win next week.

I'm tired of the self-loathing and misery. Sorry for the rant, but these types of fans suck...
