marino - the importance of game one

Happy B day to #13 who turns 50 on thursday.

Damn i'm getting old

The Dolphins will rebound this week against a tough Texans team, I hope it's hot Sunday and I would have the players wear all white uni's and make the Texans wear their dark blue Jerseys and watch them bake under the sun.

To say we can't beat the Patriots up in N.E. is a joke...we can beat any team on Any Given Sunday! This is a good football team and I don't give a crap what Tom Jackson or the rest of ESPN boneheads think!

i agree 100% but lets be real here for a minute. are u willing to bet money in vegas the dolphins win that game? no chance. we blew it at home, and lets just say the season rests on the new england game in foxboro (which it may) u like those odds? and if the dolphins odds of making the playoffs were reduced to say 15% to start the season would that make u happy? thats probably about where we are right now.

listen im not a sky is falling guy. i see this team through rose color glasses. in reality i really believe they are a top 15 team despite their flaws. in fact i think they may even be at the bottom of the top ten teams. in the afc east with their schedule with a loss to new england at home in the books. its not going to be good enough. and thats just the facts.

this team is, i believe, finally one that will be worth watching. but these guys wont last. this team isnt going to make the playoffs and its the bottom line that matters. i love this team, but we have holes that werent addressed as if they didnt exist. and those holes are glaring. ur only as strong as ur weakest link, and the bottom of the roster is weak again. we still have issues on the offensive line, and if we lose a db, we are royally screwed.

so i guess half the teams that start 0-2 make the playoffs as well with this logic right?

i guess the odds of making the playoffs just improved! what the hell was i thinking? great point bub.....lets make sure we lose to the jets at home and well be on our way! hoorah!!!

Yeah... in my post, I was talking smack.. I guess my point is.. Our team is doomed as long as Tony and Ireland is in town!! but to throw in the towel after just one game.. well.. I'm not gonna do it.. We still have 3 more months of football to play..

its not bs. its the facts. look at the facts. did we lose week one to the pats at home? nope. we won that game. was brady out for the year? yep. give me a break the jets werent the jets yet, and we went 11-5 in a week division without brady. u really think miami goes to the playoffs that year if brady doesnt get hurt? are u nuts?

look at the facts. or u can hold onto ur pipedream. i like this team more than any weve had under sparano. they might for the first time ever not a complete eyesore on the field. doesnt matter. they didnt handle business at home against the division opponent they needed to overtake.
MARINO said it. ok? so its not a joke. he thinks it too. get with the program.

Don't gimme this crap, you think that dolphins team was anything like this one? Ted Ginn was the main receiver, gibril Wilson and Jason Allen were on that team

it doesnt hurt? have u looked at pittsburgh and baltimores schedules? after week one we are already playing for the 6th seed. and u basically said it yourself. u dont play for a wildcard. u take care of business in ur own division. we didnt. and we didnt prepare to either. we treated it like it was an other game. the fact is it wasnt. it was important on way too many levels to count, and we didnt act like it was.

Did you think the Dolphins were a 13 / 14 win team? Because that is probably what it would take to win this division. Like it or not, we are fighting for a WC spot. I think NE, Bal, Hou, SD win their respective divisions. That leaves 2 spots for a WC. I think Pitt will likely take 1 in the north, and I don't see Cle or Cin competing for a spot. I doubt that any of the other teams (Besides the division winners) in the South or West win more than 8 or 9 games. I think the Jets are a 9 to 11 win team and will also be fighting for that 6th seed. I believe we will be competing with the Jets for the 6th seed.

We lost to NE. The Jets will most likely lose to NE. It is a long season, and anything can happen. I'm not going to write off the Dolphins or any other team over 1 game.

no i agree. im going to hold out hope of course, and ill watch the games. maybe well catch a break. just saying in reality it just doesnt look good right now. its not over by any means. we have 15 games to play, and maybe brady blows out his knee again and the pats tank. just saying, not good to lose that opener at home to the pats, and in reality, we are up against it, and the afc east again has a tough schedule, including, with our luck, getting stuck with the best team in the afc south (houston) on the schedule, instead of a poor colts team (pats, jets). just the way it turned out. but we really are in a tough spot right now. if this team was in the nfc west, id never say a word. id be pretty confident we are going to the playoffs. we arent. we are in the toughest division in football perhaps, with a brutal schedule (other teams dont need to overcome those things necessarily) and we have a home loss against a division opponent already.

it gonna be tough. can it happen? yes. will it happen? not likely. they are really gonna have to fight their way out of this one, and i think the pressure will mount on this staff, and when it gets tough doubt will enter into the locker room - because its been there before - and its the same staff. at the end of the day, WE dont believe in these guys right? do u really think the players are united in their belief of sparano and ireland??? there is no way. they almost got the axe at the end of the year, and every player in that locker room knows it. that is not a winning formula folks. this is a lame duck regime, and everybody knows it, those arent good circumstances to play under.

whats ur point? i said this team is better. doesnt matter. this division is better. the road to the playoffs this year is much tougher then it was then. we had a cupcake schedule that year, and we obviously werent talented enough to be a playoff team, even though we did make the playoffs. this year, we are talented enough to be a playoff team even tho inexplicably we didnt fill a couple holes in the secondary, the backfield, and the oline. we are talented enough in many areas to make the playoffs, but it seems unlikely to me at this point that we actually will. which means we will be starting all over next year. empty stadium, no playoffs, no belief in this front office = complete overhaul next year.....starting all over....whole new system, another step back

Speaking of Pittsburgh..did you see them play? Judging by that outing they would be lucky to win 6 games this year. Anything can happen.

i agree and i dont think they will be as good as theyve been. i dont think they will get the same production out of both polomalu and harrison that they have. 10 members of their starting defense is over 30. they do have a cupcake schedule tho. that offense is very very good, and they know how to win. pittsburgh will be in the playoffs. and its possible miami COULD be the better team and not be. of course even if they were the media would still never go for it lol. its just like new englands first super bowl team....u know the one that the raiders beat and the refs handed the afc championship to? nobody in their right mind could say that was a better team than the team that went undefeated. but history will say they were even tho they had no business winning a super bowl.

your right. however unfortunately that game is on a saturday, not a sunday:lol::lol:

There were some good points here brought up, especially the one with Tressel making it clear to his players how important it is beating Michigan every year. We need a coach like that who understands how important the divisional games are, especially the games against New England. Let's face it... the Patriots are the team to beat in the division every year, Rex Ryan knows itwhich is why he has draft guys like Derrele Revis with Tom Brady in mind. I would love it if the Dolphins had a head coach like Tressel or Gruden, they understand the game and know which team you have to beat in your division if you want to win the championship.
Rex didn't draft Revis, Mangini did. He was already there when Rex arrived.

it's not good, but lets not give up all hope yet.

We can't lose our heads completely, the Pats are a great team, and it's foolish of us to think we're in the same class as the are just yet. On the other hand, they did expose a lot of our weaknesses that we'll need to work on for next week.
