Marino thinks SFLS

"You got to win games," Marino replied. "That's what your job is -- that's the franchise. You don't go out there trying to lose games. That's just ridiculous. If that does happen, then you look at who's the best possible player.

"Usually, if you can get a franchise-type quarterback that's going to be around for ten years, that's probably what direction you should go," he continued. "But you're not going to know that for quite awhile, and you might not even know Andrew Luck -- what's going to happen with him during the season."

The man does have a point. Who really knows if Luck would pan out or if he'll remain healthy. For every quality QB who's selected first overall, like a Manning or an Elway, there's also a JaMarcus Russel and a Tim Couch. Then there's your surprise superstars like Brett Favre and Tom Brady who weren't selected anywhere near the first round.

That about says it all doesn't it ?

To merge or not to merge...

you've got a big responsibility whether you want to assimilate this with all the SFL flotsam and jetsam or decide whether the opinion and perspective of one of the greatest all time QBs who also has close connections to the team is noteworthy on a stand alone basis.

I wouldn't want to be in your shoes Gonzo :idk:

It guarantees nothing...but it gives us much better odds of climbing out of this decade plus long funk. Im all for that. Winning games at this point just sets us up for another subpar year and another subpar year.

Seriously, can we actually stop taking every single thing at face value and actually look when and more importantly why something was said. Dan Marino is the greatest player to ever put on a dolphins uniform, he is the face of the franchise. He also is on TV every week and a public figure. Dan Marino is going to say things that put him in the best light. Dan Marino has a reputation as being one of the fiercest competitors to ever play. What the heck did you expect him to say when asked that question? "Oh, i think the dolphins should lose every game so they can get Luck. The season is over already dolphin fans, no reason to root for the home team. Lets suck for Luck." You think someone that much in the public eye is gonna say something to the public that goes against his reputation as a competitor..
"
Have you ever heard his morning radio show with Joe Rose? It is as vanilla and uncontroversial as it gets.

Let me say this though, if Dan Marino knew he was going to be the gm or coach next year, he can say whatever he wants but in the back of his mind hes praying we get Andrew Luck

He doesn't want Luck to blow his franchise records out of the water.
....wait...WHAT.....seriously...I hope this is just a case of sarcasm not coming across well on the interwebs....if it isnt you clearly are a Luck homer already...Marino actually had VALID points in what he said...and lets be honest...how would anyone be able to break ANY team passing records if we have no OL to protect him...

Of course he's going to say that. He's a competitive guy who always HATED losing no mater what. So he expects players, regardless of the team to be giving it's all to win every game. Problem is, I don't thing anyone on the SFL bandwagon truly wants players to throw games or try less to win. Just between our FO, play-calling and guys not having the right fit, talent, etc. in certain positions precludes us from having a better than avg chance of winning games. Sad thing is, I think our players are trying (most of them) and they just don't have the right talent in key positions to pull off the victories. Indy on the other hand, does, except at QB, but it almost looks like most of their players/coaches are tanking it to lose. You won't win that losing battle.

Dan has to say this as an NFL analyst. I think if you ask any current Dolphin player they would say the exact same thing....that as a professional player you have to play to win on Sunday. But deep down inside I am sure Dan realizes that we are never going to be more than an average to lousy team without a franchise QB. I don't think any true Phin's fan wants to see this team go 0-16 or 1-15, but if it means one crappy season to get Luck, and maybe 12-15 very good years, count me in for the SFL. Who wants to to go 7-9 or 8-8 every year???? It gets old.

You people are hilarious. Is he supposed to come out as a professional and say, "Yes, the Miami Dolphins team should tank the season to get the number one overall pick!"

No. He's the greatest friggin QB of all time.

He is a competitor and was a professional athlete, and so are the current players on the team. Do you think they will suck to get the first pick? Obviously not. But we as fans are just that -- fans. We have a long term mentality and we won't get criticized (only on finheaven) and we aren't trying to save our jobs by winning games. I bet you'll be hard pressed to find ANYONE....hall of fame QBs included...that won't admit that the Dolphins have a brighter future if they draft Luck.

Not to Merge.

Dan is a smart man and his point is crystal clear and a reflection of what "this" Miami Dolphins team is missing, leadership, drive and the sense of being a team.

It is amazing how far the mighty of fallen in ten plus years.

That is the silliest thing EVER posted. Dan IMO knows records are made to be broken.... except for the 5084 yds in a season.

On the contrary, Brady is on pace to rack up 5,994 passing yards. He is one of only six QBs on pace to surpass 5084.
