Marino Turned Down Offer From Steelers

They had a good OL in Pitt. They also had a running game better than he ever had in Miami. The defense was also not too bad. Id liked to have seen him go there a year just to prove he still had some gas in the tank......maybe go out on his own terms. I hated the way it went the last 2 years in Miami.

Damnit he should have played that last year here! You think we wouldn't have made the playoffs at least? We did with Fiedler!!!

He hated Jimmy and Dave thats why he didnt comeback, actually he still hates Dave and Jimmy(That's our dolfan Dan.)

simply awesome....he wanted to retire a fin.....that is a TRUE Miami Dolphin...and that's why when I look to the wall right next to me, his plaques are everywhere!!!

I am sure he could have played another year but not at the same level we were accustomed to see.He made the right decision.

Little known fact....

January 4, 1983: Pittsburgh quarterback Dan Marino is the first player selected, by the Los Angeles Express. Marino becomes the first player in history to be officially drafted by the USFL. He does not sign.

He showed good judgement from the start.

i wish he woulda played for minasota now taht i think about it then we coulda got culpepper and we wouldnt be in the QB state we are in now but yeah that shows class Go Dan!

Usfl Sucked, But Had Some Great Players

I have very fond memories of the USFL. My mom was Rollie Dotsch's secretary (Birmingham Stallions). I spent every day at Legion Field. I got to meet alot of very good players and VERY cool people. Because Coach Dotsch coached with the Steelers I got to meet Swann, Stallworth, Webster, and many others he had to come talk to the team. It was very exciting for a 13 year old to be hanging with some of those guys.

Personally, I would have loved to see him in a Pitt uniform especially after the way he was treated by Johnson, even got a little excited at the thought of a marino steelers jersey. Thhought he might have had a shot at a ring with minn as well but happy he retired a dolphin.

Thanks Dan, this just exemplifies what the guy was about. He's a true Dolphin through and through. The best kind of sports superstar is a LOYAL one! :D

Dan did the right thing...I remember how Joe Montana looked playing out his career in Kansas City....he did not go out the right way like Dan did. I also heard that Dan's wife did not want to move the family to Minnesota so Dan decided to call it a career...he would have looked funny in purple.
