Marino’s comments on the play of Chad Henne

Marino pointed out exactly what I've been saying...


A quarterback's garbage stats mean nothing if he's not getting the ball into the endzone and scoring touchdowns in the redzone. He also touched on what I've already said about the rules and all the gaudy statistics QB's are putting up now. If you can't pad your stats in the NFL now, you need to be playing baseball...

He also talked about how the elite teams in this league convert 3rd downs at a high percentage... which is precisely what I tried to point out when everyone was slobbering all over the message board legend, Lousaka Polite and his irrelevant 1 yard to go conversions... It's about converting 3rd and medium/long situations in this league... and Miami is absolutely horrible at it.



No need for people to listen to this one... it's all basically the exact same things they've been reading around here from the "haters".... Somebody needs to pull Marino's "real fan" card.

TSJ - Raising Matt Ryan up with Brees Brady and Raodgers is a joke

Didn't the Matt Ryan and the Falcons struggle with plays over 20 yards last year...? :rolleyes2: Wow with all that talent you gotta wonder Roddy White led the league in receptions? HOF TE...? With that top notch running game you would think they could throw over the top of the safeties at will...? Guess not...

Polite's '100%' 3rd/4th and 1 conversion percentage was overrated in terms of WINNING and overall team success. You're not a legitimate contender when the offense can't convert 3rd and medium/long situations like they're supposed to...

The teams that are playing for superbowls are the one's that are tops in the league at converting 3rd and medium/long situations.... not because they have some overrated message board legend of a fullback who's good at falling forward for a half yard.

That's not my opinion that's a fact. Go look at the two teams that played in the superbowl last year and tell me where they ranked league wise in terms of converting 3rd and medium/long situations....

Hell, go look at any of the teams that competed for superbowls and tell me where they rank in terms of coverting 3rd and medium/long situations.

I've seen the numbers...



Marino's comments had nothing to do with Polite, and I didn't insinuate that. Marino supported my stance that converting 3rd and medium/long situations is the key to a good offense, and a successful team.

How often your fullback is falling forward for a half yard is irrelevant. What matters is that you're converting the 3rd and medium/long situations.

Converting short yardage situations boils down to your offensive line getting lower than the defensive line.... not who your fullback is.

Converting 3rd and medium/long situations boils down to who your quarterback is.

Henne you see for yourself there is promise there he may not surface as a starter here next year but he and J Beck got the short end while M. Ryan was given a promising start.

Thanks to the running game he pulled out a win after Vick went down...

Back to M Ryan I am waiting for him to do something special with all that talent - like win a PO game. I mean the guy already had a splendid array of talent on and they move up 20 spoots in the draft neglecting a very porous pass defense to draft the best WR - I mean do they have that many concerns about Matt Ryan and chunk yardage that they completely ignore their D... It makes no sense to the simple onlooker

Tiger Woods is the best in the world at sinking 10 footers, therefore 3 footers are irrelevant. Is that your logic?

Yes.



Matt Ryan will probably win a playoff game when his defense holds the opposition to less than 40+ points.... kinda like Marino couldn't either.

Not exactly... Tiger can't win a tournament if he's missing 3 footers.

However, if he's making the 10 footers, he's GOING to win.



Miami was winning 7 games with Polite converting 100% of his 3rd/4th and 1 opportunities.

The team will start being a contender when they start converting 3rd and medium/long situations at the same clip the top teams in the league are. But first thing's first... they have to have the quarterback to do it.
