Marino’s comments on the play of Chad Henne

lol?

Marino: One of the most important things in the league is completing third down conversions

You: I told you Polite's third down conversions were overrated.

:err:

u both have a point. but yes polites 3rd and 1 conversions were overrated if u are evaluating his as player. what else can he do? and perhaps his success was simply a result of the fact we went to the well over and over and over again? i mean it was almost getting to the point it was ridiculous despite the success.

the fact is, even if polite converted lets say 39 of 40 attempts. ANY back on the roster with any size (and every roster should have at least 1) should be converting 35 of 40 ANYWAYS. and what are the odds polite converts in the same way moving forward??? not very good

thomas can handle those carrys, and hilliard can as well if the staff would give him the touches.

polite cut was almost insignificant in the big picture

Here is another guy you touted higly oh QB czar -

Henne's big problem last year wasn't third downs until his leg went gimpy the team quit... and so on and so on... Here is Greyboy post #17 defending Henne's third down completion percentage, I expect Henne to get rid of the ball, put up good numbers as long as everyone stays healthy, the D is leading the league in giving up yardage Henne is a secondary problem - the D is not nearly as good as many thought - the Offense may turn in just a enuf wins 5-6... and keep us out of the Luck and Barkley sweepstakes...

Polite's '100%' 3rd/4th and 1 conversion percentage was overrated in terms of WINNING and overall team success. You're not a legitimate contender when the offense can't convert 3rd and medium/long situations like they're supposed to...

The teams that are playing for superbowls are the one's that are tops in the league at converting 3rd and medium/long situations.... not because they have some overrated message board legend of a fullback who's good at falling forward for a half yard.

Agree with you 100% that it's absolutely huge to convert 3rd downs especially 3rd and long. How many times did we see Green Bay convert those during their run last year? Almost unstoppable. Pats have done it well for more years than I care to count. On the other hand, I'm beginning to think we'd be better punting on 3rd and long over the last few years, as at least we would have the element of surprise.

I will say though it definitely would not hurt to be able to convert a friggen 3 and 1 without have to try a fade or go 5 wide. Certainly would have helped us against the Pats at the goal line.

How about the coaches out-thinkng themselves had DT been in the Pats game they may toss in a run or two on 3rd and 1 and 4th and one on the goal line - dont cha think?

Just because 3rd and medium/long conversions are important doesn't mean that 3rd and shorts aren't. We could have used Polite this year, sorry if you didn't like him...

If Polite could put on 60 pounds we could use him pulling at RG

As much as 3rd down conversions have been bad, at the same time, first and second down conversions are truly way better than last year, henceforth, the moving the ball between the 20's is very good. we are getting larger chunks of yards so far.

Just get the damn ball in the endzone. thats the bottom line.

I am hoping Daboll is working in practice at getting in good plays that will covert on 3rd downs.
