I'm not saying Williams is a better player than Vernon, but for years I have criticised the dolphins front office for not making most of compensatory picks, but finally next year we will get something back and like ozzie newsome has done for years, take advantage of losing high end free agents.

The simple fact is we have swapped Vernon plus an average salary of $17m a year, for Williams on $8.5m a year, plus a 3rd round pick next year.

In addition, Williams is coming off an off year but if you look at his stats when playing in a 4-3 as opposed to 3-4, he is a far better player.

Williams is a better player than Vernon. One discontent season in a system he hated doesn't change that. When Randy Moss was with the Raiders, he was still better than Jabar Gaffney.

I actually read on this site from some homers when we acquired Mario that Vernon is better and Tbaum is an idiot for destroying the team by acquiring Mario and not resigning Vernon. Lol!

OV was better last season by any measure however i agree Williams at his best is a better player than OV at his best.

The question is will we get Williams at his best or an aged ineffective player who is in decline vs a young player who's best is probably still in front of him :idk:

Guess we shall see.

That deal OV got was ridiculous so personally i'm glad we moved on.

OV was young and a good pass rusher....

As far as shutting down the corner against the run Ehhh....staying healthy ehhhh

Never considered him anything that special and not a big loss. He's good but not near the money he got... Now Lamar Miller I consider a real loss....

Olivier Vernon at his current contract is one of the most over rated players in the league.

Williams is better, but Vernon is younger and ascending. I understand the move, but would like to see Miami doing a better job of signing its talent before free agency.

In that regard, get Landry a long-term deal. He's a player the team has to hang onto.

Rashad Jones too

OV has a solid spin move, but is insanely overpaid. The rest of his game needs improvement and while M Williams might or might not be that I still think the FO made the right call here.

It's a scheme issue. Does anyone believe that OV would have been such a hot commodity had the Dolphins switched to a 3-4 defense and had him play OLB?
I think OV is a very good DE, but he is not an elite edge rusher. Williams is a better 4-3 DE than OV. As a 3-4 OLB I don't think either of them would be anything special

People keeping say OV is the better player because he's younger. While Williams might only play 2 or 3 more seasons I doubt Vernon makes it to year 3 or 4 on that Giant deal because he's scheduled to get $20 million per season at that point.

If he's playing well they will just restructure like we just did with Suh.

If OV was here on a lower contract people would be beyond content. I am not going to convince myself that Mario is better than OV, I will wait and allow their play dictate my opinion.

I don't think anyone mad at the Dolphins picking up Williams instead of paying Vernon 17 mill. The issue with losing Vernon is their strategy on dealing with Vernon which lead to him getting 17 mill as well as what the dolphins did with the money that was saved. What did the fins gain? Nothing?
