Miami Dolphins defensive end Mario Williams at Dolphins training camp. (Allen Eyestone / The Palm Beach Post)

DAVIE — When I asked Mario Williams how important sack totals are to him at this point in his career, I thought he might downplay it.
I thought Williams might talk about team defense or the importance of being a complete player. Or dropping into pass coverage.
OK, not that part.
But chatting with Williams on Monday — for the first time since I returned to Florida three weeks ago — I realized Williams really wants sacks in 2016.
Sacks are really important to a guy who has more sacks (96) than all but two players (DeMarcus Ware and Jared Allen) over the past 10 years.
Mario Williams wants a lot of sacks this season. He plans to have a lot of sacks this season. He believes the Miami Dolphins’ defensive plan will allow him to record a lot of sacks this season.

At least Miami will let Mario be Mario....

Also having some of the hardest working pros around him in Wake and Suh should have a positive impact as well...

At least try and seem like a fan of this team.

I tend to be optimistic every PS. Always some positives to think (dream?) about. And I'm exctied to see Mario in action. Still, I'll be mildly surprised if most here aren't somewhat troubled by what Mario displayed (or DIDN'T display) this PS.

Well we know we can count on him for at least two great games this year. Buffalo @ Miami & Miami @ Buffalo. Seriously though, his pride and the two alphas playing along side of him will make him work harder just to keep up.

But that is preseason plus I think being a vet has something to do with it. The chicken little stuff over things is insane.

His pre-season doesn't bother me at all. Often times, vets like him approach it different than guy fighting for a job. If he doesn't show up early on in the season, then yeah I'll get concerned. Right now, no concern. Actually expect him to play quite well this season.

he didnt show much in preseason, not expecting much from him this season.

Lol yeah because preseason dictates what happens during the regular season. Smh.

I think Suh milked it in the pre-season too. That's what vets do

No disagreement. And, remember, I AM optimistic and expect him to do well. Nonetheless, I'll still be surprised if his PS performance didn't trouble you a little.

I agree Williams has not looked special but we should reserve final judgement until it's for real. Tough to gauge Vets in preseason.

You may be understating the case. It is nearly impossible to judge vets not on the bubble during preseason.
