I think Cuban is one of the most entertaining owners around, on par with the likes of Snyder, Jones etc...but he is right on the money about the NFL and what they are trying to do. To the die hard fanbase this is a great thing but to the casual fan (like I am with Basketball) it just makes me skim through to something else on the TV. I rarely watch an NBA regular season game, usually I don't even watch baseketball until March (college) and then again at the end of April.

Mark Cuban warns NFL “hogs” risk eventual “implosion”

As NFL owners are gathering in Orlando to count their money and plan on how to make more, one of their NBA counterparts is firing a warning shot.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told reporters tonight that the NFL is bordering on over-saturation of the market, with dire consequences.

“I think the NFL is 10 years away from an implosion,” Cuban said, via Tim McMahon of ESPNDallas.com. “I’m just telling you, pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. And they’re getting hoggy. Just watch. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. When you try to take it too far, people turn the other way.

So what do you guys think? Over staturation or a good thing for the NFL?

Why is he speaking about a league he doesn't own in? Just shut up Cuban i never have liked the guy. The nfl knows what they are doing. That's why they are the greatest American sport now and will be for a long time. If you are saying don't make football everyday fine i agree with that. But you could add a couple games and maybe a couple playoff teams if you added expansion teams. I like the playoffs the way it is right now though. Internationally the nfl has a lot of room to grow. The nfl is not imploding

You wanna talk imploding. The nba with their 82 games. That's greed, shorten the nba season and i would be a lot more inclined to watch every game. I also feel the same about baseball over 100 games is just boring to me. The games don't matter when the season is that long

I think that's what Cuban was actually getting at. The NFL's TV ratings are so good because they have fewer games and fewer teams making the playoffs than other leagues. When they start trying to add more games to the regular season, and expand the playoffs so 8-8 is usually good enough to get a Wild Card, the league's regular season ratings are going to suffer, especially if the public eventually loses interest in fantasy football. And television is really the life blood of NFL revenues considering that there will never be enough games to make ticket sales enough to sustain teams and player salaries. Hell, you saw the Packers struggling to sell out a playoff game against the 49ers. Don't care how cold it was, that's really shocking.

I agree with Cuban. Gotohell & Co. are destroying the game. Period.

I think an 18 game regular season is oversaturation.

I think the 30 minute halftime show during the superbowl by ****ty artists is going too far. How about something football related.

I agree he's destroying the game, however he's not doing it by over saturation which is what
Cuban's point in this is.......And an absurd point at that.

I would agree.

I was going to say, "doubtful," but, not kidding, a commercial for Draft Day came on as I was writing it. :bobdole:

Haven't seen this newest commercial, but it can't be as bad as that bizarre mime kind of theme that espn had a few years ago. (Words can't actually describe it, but hopefully people can remember what I'm talking about).

I guess though, it's the counterargument to Cuban. As ridiculous and cheesy as Goodel and espn try to make draft day, I still love watching it.

The NHL draft telecast though is probably the best. It's pretty no frills and a lot of information for folks like me that don't follow amateur hockey.

The reactions are funny and as I expected, to us die hards the expanded NFL looks awesome, I'd watch football every day almost if it was on but like anything else that is because it is one of my hobbies/pastimes. To the average American who loves to watch during the playoffs and Super Bowl it would, I think, kill the overall ratings.

I'm a baseball fan, always have been, played the game and I think Baseball is way way over sold. I hardly watch a game until late summer. I might watch a few games early on just to watch the new talent but then I know it really doesn't even matter until down the stretch, there are just so many games to play that any team can overcome a slow start. Football is great now because rarely do teams who come out of the gate 1-3 or 0-4 make the playoffs. You have to have a good Q1 in the NFL to overcome any mid-season hardships and make a push. I love that about the NFL, the whole season matters, one complete season. I never thought I'd see the day when 8-8 or even 7-9 had life in week 16.

Horrible for the game in my opinion. You want to implement a rule that makes sense to help the playoffs, just add the top 6 teams from the AFC and NFC record wise and be done with it. No more division winners auto in, if there are 6teams above 10-6 and one division where the winner is 9-7, too bad, see you next year.

Sorry, meant that I saw a commercial for the movie called Draft Day with Kevin Costner, which is basically a giant ad for the NFL set to come out just as ads for the real draft day will begin. An ad that people will, for some reason, pay to see. :bobdole:
