Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mark Duper has tested positive for signs of the condition chronic traumatic encephalopathy, according to Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports. The news is reportedly coming straight from Duper. He joins a growing list of former NFL players to be diagnoses with CTE, which is a degenerative brain condition caused by a build up of abnormal protein that attacks the center of the brain. The center of the brain controls memory and emotional functions, as well as many ancillary processes.
Very sad news indeed, I wish Super Duper the best,

How many concussions did dupe have???

I am guessing they went unnoticed. Unless a player went unconscious, it really wasn't considered a concussion. It just wasn't watched that closely back then.

Good luck Duper!

There is a difference between tested positive for signs of and actually being diagnosed with CTE. As I understand it, and those in the know feel free to correct me, but at my last indulgence into this topic - the only way to accurately diagnose anyone with CTE is to do so posthumously.

Prayers to Duper on this - wouldn't wish it on anyone.

You're correct - at present, a definitive diagnosis for CTE can only be made posthumously (although some progress has been made with PET and MRI scans as potential diagnostic tools). However, given his symptoms, I think the likelihood of CTE is very high for Duper. It's times like these that you really wonder about the price paid by these pro athletes, and whether the cost-benefit actually makes sense.

Wasn't aware of PET - thanks for the heads up.
