Once the Florida Marlins finished teeing off Greg Maddux , he took his turn.
He grabbed a bat and whacked the water cooler.

Joe Borchard and Miguel Cabrera hit three-run homers and the Marlins roughed up a shaky Maddux, beating the Chicago Cubs 9-3 Wednesday for a three-game sweep.

''I made pretty good pitches, but they got me,'' Maddux said. ''You don't like to lose, especially like that.''

The last-place Marlins posted their longest winning streak of the season. They also kept Maddux (5-4) winless in May after he got off to the best start of his career.

After going 5-0 with a 1.35 ERA in April, the four-time Cy Young winner fell to 0-4 with a 7.81 ERA this May. The last time Maddux went through a full month without a victory was September 2001.

Maddux gave up six runs and eight hits in six innings. After giving up five runs in the fifth and falling behind 6-3, he clubbed the cooler.

''I threw the ball where I wanted to and they still hit it,'' he said.
Borchard's homer capped the big inning against Maddux.

''It's pretty exciting,'' Borchard said. ''It's not very often you can say something like that.''

any chance we sign this guy?

Well, it was an opportunity for both teams to finally have a "sweep". I knew the Marlins would sweep the Cubs; The Cubs pitchers are horrendous, and their offensive weapons are complete trash.

I think this is a great confidence booster for the young Marlins. Hopefully they will start getting more 2 out of 3 wins from now on, or maybe even a sweep. :D

The Cubs are BAD. Who knew Derrek Lee meant *THAT* much to the team?

 I don't know if you saw this or not, but they showed it on Sportscenter and when he hit the water cooler, it splashed water all over some nobody that was sitting on the bench next to him. They anchor said, "Look at the reaction of the guy getting splashed by the cooler. He knows he can't do anything cause this is a future HOF pitcher, so he just sits there and takes it."

This quote really stood out to me by Maddux. That proves that this team has alot of potential and could be deadly in 2-3 years, but right now we're too young. I don't believe that you really believed the Marlins were going to SWEEP the Cubbies, Vertical Limit. They are the second worst team in baseball behind the Kansas Sh!tty Royals, but the Cubs might be playing even worse than them right now.

Actually, I did beleive that the Marlins were going to sweep the Cubbies. I even told my friend before this series that I thought that this may be the best opportunity for the Marlins to get a sweep. The Marlins offensively are pretty damn good. None of these games they lost this season have been blow outs. As a matter of fact, they lost three games last week in EXTRA innings. If the Marlins just had a decent pitching staff, this would be a winning team.

Thats a pretty bold but impressive prediction. I see so much talent on this team and our average age is 26, the youngest in the league. We've had maybe 2 or 3 blowouts (i think one against the Braves 9-1?), but we're soooo young. Come back victories like the two in this past series, especially the first game with 2 outs in the 9th, build chemistry. I played baseball in high school and our team had decent talent but a **** load of chemistry. Its ridiculous how much team chemistry effects how good your team is (i.e. the Braves, Astros, and Cardinals). The more dramatic or blowout victories we get, the sooner we can be then next wild card team to win a World Series!!!

Well I'm sure having Prior and Wood down for the first 2 months have hurt as well. But they have been really awful. I feel bad for the franchise, they have such a great fan base and tradition, they just never seem to catch a break (unless it's in a bone).

it just shows what can happen when you have quality pitching
