think about it. If he is successful with his lawsuit for harassment, then no team can yell or hurt the feelings of any NFL player. All involved with a team must talk nice to their players on and off the field. No more telling a player, " Go kill that guy". Someone might get offended. A coach can't say things like the media beloved Parcell said once, "Go start a fight with that guy. See what he's got". They must talk nice and easy to players. "Umm, Player X, I wold like for you to play a little harder. Please." All NFL players must be talked to in a nice, non-profanity dialect. No going to dinner or non NFL trips together. Don't hit too hard because of CTE and someone might think you are trying to hurt them on purpose so that's battery. Changed forever maybe.

Martin comes from a very wealthy family. His mother is the Assistant General Counsel for Toyota and his Dad is a professor. They are top lawyers both with degrees from Harvard and I would expect that their inclination would be to get the best legal advice and that is what they have done in seeking Cornwall (who successfully extricated Roethlisberger from his little mishap). However, I would not be surprised if Jonathan Martin is motivated more by the prospect of a fresh start (elsewhere), than the prospect of a big pay day via legal action. I have no doubt that he would be well placed to make a strong case, but I honestly don't think that will be his goal. Let us observe what happens from here.

I concur that the cafeteria incident is not the cause. I am increasingly of the belief that the real cause was the one on one meeting with Philbin was when he was told that the protection of Tannehill was not good enough and that was why he was moved to right tackle. Here is an extremely smart guy who had always excelled academically and in his sport, football, probably being told he is failing for the first time and he controlled himself but was hurt. I'm sure that he is a sensitive thinker who endured a lot of inappropriate hazing but to react like he did on the cafeteria incident seems stupid.

Engaging David Cornwell is to professionally prep him for the meeting with Wells, he is allegedly, the best. Martin is an extremely smart guy. The preparation for the Wells meeting is analogous to studying before an exam. I predict Martin will excel at the meeting. Take a look at all of his Dolphin interviews. I have been around a lot of allegedly smart people who couldn't think their way out of a paper bag and couldn't function under pressure.
When I was a medical student and intern there was a military type mentality (hierarchy). I've been dressed down numerous times and told I wasn't good enough during medical school and during residency/fellowship. That's part of medical training for all students/resident (at least during the time I went through training).It made me thick skinned. Some people I trained with, just simply quit or dropped out. One of my classmates who dropped out, graduated with honors from MIT. I went to good ole USF and did well.
This notion that simply graduating from a top school, doesn't necessarily mean you have what it takes to succeed. Martin is an inherently weak person.

You may be right, I'm only guessing, but his track record is one of a very successful guy before becoming a Dolphin - from what I can gather, he excelled at the competition. He may be manic depressive and a perfectionist and has difficulty accommodating failure. A number of years ago I worked for an extremely successful guy who had this problem. Ultimately he had a very public failure and he couldn't cope with it. Within a few years his career and marriage were in tatters as he became an alcoholic. He had a track record of great success - academic and business but he could not handle a failure. It was my experience with this guy that triggered the possible similarity to Martin.
My bet is that Jonathan knows he should have manned up but appears to have emotionally over-reacted to a stupid prank. However, you can't get the toothpaste back in the tube. Sometimes intelligent people have difficulty handling emotions.
