martin not the only dolphin liking the locker room culture here?

Nothing and I repeat nothing is worth $30,000 at a dinner unless you are buying a share in the establishment!

Was the dinner on one rookie or all the rookies? 30K between a number of players isn't as bad as the former.

we have already rehashed this in another trend. Will Davis said all of the rookies split the bill. This happens every season in the NFL. Dez Bryant paid $54,000 for a restaurant bill after he refused to carry Roy Williams pads and Shawne Merriman paid a $15,000 bill his rookie year.

It was split between them. The entire culture is stupid but this happens with all NFL teams. Like I said in the other thread, what I fear is that we are going to get scapegoated for this crap the way the Saints were scapegoated for Bountygate even though this **** happens with every NFL team. It's all about protecting the league against legal liability

Buddy I put myself through college waiting tables and I can guarantee no meal is worth $30,000, $15,000 or $54,000 and it is why these guys are broke and commit suicide not concussions!

Scapegoated? It's bad press, I don't think the Dolphins are going to be punished as an organization unless there's a lot more going on than this.

If it takes a little bad press for the Dolphins to get this crap stopped league wide, I'm all for it. The average NFL career is, what, three years? Outside of first rounders, rookies aren't making enough to be set for life even with the best financial planning, but it's the first real money most of 'em have seen in their life. Between that and the peer pressure, you've got these poor saps pitching in for $30k dinners and financing trips they don't want to take. Then they are out of the league (believe me, between Martin's play and the "distraction" factor he now brings, he'll be out of the NFL in a couple years) and before long, hurting for money without any real job skills in many cases. All for the privilege of being treated like **** by some scumbag like Incognito and subsidizing his lifestyle.

Teasing rookies and making them do some mildly humiliating things is something I don't have a real problem with. They're grown men. But it can get out of control easily. Guys who were hazed get some status in the league, and then they want to top what was done to them when hazing the next group of guys.

Nobody thought the Saints would get destroyed by the NFL for the bounty thing considering that everyone was doing it and the league had even promoted it as a good thing in the past (when Reggie White was involved).

The NFL needs to make it against league policy for any type of hazing or making the rookies pay for meals etc. Problem solved.

While I'm reading this thread , could you get me a Thai calamari appetizer and a Corona please?

Very well said. You saved my need for a similar post.

who gives a crap about bad press, tell me, since when do the dolphins get good press anyways?

I hope you're right on your first point, and I agree with you on the other point. The rookie hazing in the NFL is ridiculous.

No player should have to pay for any other player's bills....be it dinner, groceries, bar tabs, ANYTHING. That is ridiculous and absurd. I don't care if it's "accepted" or the "norm" it needs to be stopped. This isn't high school. These are adults who are supporting a family. Rookies don't make enough money to justify crap like this. If the vets want/need more money, then go earn it by PLAYING BETTER! Or else, shut up....simply put.

If you want to haze by cutting a guy's hair, making him sing at lunch, carrying your equipment during camp....that's fine. Anything else should not be accepted by the players who are supposed to be the leaders of this team, the coaches, or the organization.
