Marty Schottenheimer is pretty much begging to be Phins coach

I'd be happy with him. 2 losing seasons? Ever? The guy wins and he builds talented teams. I'd love to only be concerned about whether he can get over his playoff curse. Age is the least of my concerns. At the very least he'll leave a talented team when he retires. Hell, Vermeil was 61 when he took over St. Louis and 65 when he signed with Kansas City. Tom Coughlin is 65.

It's not like we're signing him to play linebacker again.

exactly. Let this sink in especially when you want to compare it to Fisher. 21 seasons as a coach. Only 2 seasons......I repeat only 2 seasons in which he had a losing record. 12 seasons with a winning record. The guy can flat out coach.

He had winning seasons with other teams. When he was still established. When he still understood what was going on in the league. This is NOT the same NFL as it was in 2006. his style of coaching does not translate into winning in TODAYS league. Fresh out of SD? Sure. Now? JUST SAY NO.

And the league in 2006 wasn't the same league as in the 80's or 90's, and yet he's been successful in every one of them.

So im guessing you are just as adament about not wanting bill cowher either since hes been out just as long. Or maybe Gruden who got out only one year after Marty. He was 14-2 in 2006. To say the game completely changed in those 5 years is just lazy

You're acknowledging that the game has completely changed in the last 5 years. I think thats nonsense. If you were a great coach five years ago, you can still coach today

No I'm not, I'm saying when it comes to Schottenheimer, it doesn't matter if it's changed. He's shown he can weather such changes quite well, unlike Parcells.

Im not saying he cant coach im saying a 68 year old coaches style doesnt change. We need an innovative. Pass first offense that puts at least a 40 burger up every sunday. Like the saints. Like the patriots. Like the packers. His style of running an offense is just outdated. Like him. If your so fond of marty why not just bring back shula. Only a 14 year difference.

And its nonsense if you think the game HASNT changed in five years. Look at the passing numbers. Look at the defenses. Look at SF get eaten apart by drew brees today while they run it with gore for maybe 100 yards. Marty ball is dead.

To be fair, the major change about enforcement of illegal contact, which is what has made the league so pass-happy, went into effect in 2004. Schottenheimer coached a 14-2 team in 2006. I don't think he is out of touch.

The San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos are 2 of the final 8 teams alive in the postseason, and both play Martyball. Hell, John Fox's coaching style has even been coined as "Foxball" as an obvious nod to that.

If anything I would argue that for teams which do not have a premiere QB (such as, wait for it, Miami), Martyball is still the best formula for success. Let's face it, Matt Moore, all joking in my sig aside, is not going to run a Packers/Saints style offense and be successful.

I do not see what it would hurt to at least talk to the man. There are no "must have" candidates out there. Schottenheimer is a consistently good football coach with Shula ties, that alone should warrant some interest.

I'd be ok with Marty if he hired a coordinator or assistant who would be his clear successor in 3 or 4 years.

Well, he has a couple of the things I'm looking for in a coach.......he apparently WANTS to coach the 'phins and I would be willing to bet he is VERY hungry. What a story it would make too, Shotty to Miami then finally wins the big one. Has a nice ring to it.

Just read it. Go ahead. Ill wait.

Now, youre telling me that miami needs to get marty? Miami played marty ball with tony when we made the playoff run. And guess what. Just like marty got killed in the playoffs with neoconservatism. SO DID MIAMI against baltimore.

It baffles me. The birds were out singing songs of high powered offense. Exciting offense. Points on the board. And yet after the jeff fisher saga you want marty here to tone it down and turn up the polka. I want high powered offemse. I wamt a heavy metal lotsa points kick you when youre down offemse. Not "well, we are down by 14 in the 4th quarter. Better run the ball. Thats martyball"

Do you like brandon marshall? Reggie bush? Charles clay? Devone bess? Because if marty comes to town they are OUT and daniel thomas runs it up the middle for 640 carries a year.

Neoconservatism? Since when does Marty advocate waging preemptive wars?
