I just heard that if the Chargers lose this weekend against the Patriots, there's a good possibility he could be fired as Chargers head coach. He's had a long history of rifts / problems within the organization, and from recent reports{today}, his days could be numbered if they lose....

I would love to have Marty coaching the Miami Dolphins. He would be under a very easy going / hands off owner in Wayne, and he'd be reunited with OL coach H. Houck as well. There may not be a better head coaching candidate availble if Marty ends up on the market, and Wayne should seriously consider hiring Marty Shottenhiemer if the Chargers don't want to keep him around....

I know this is pure speculation at this stage, but there is sustance to this rumor, and it's no more far fetched than some of these other GM / HC senario's I've been reading lately. Shott would be a great fit in Miami....

With rivers at QB they have surpased all the goals for this year....I really dont think hes gone ecspecially if they lose cause of Rivers and not Marty. So maybe.

My thoughts on Marty are simple, I think he is a very good coach, what concerns me is his long history of not getting anywhere with his teams once he gets to the playoffs.

Its almost like he is a great in-season coach, but a lousy playoff coach.

With the talent they have, they should not lose to New England.

Win or loose and I do think they have a good shot at loosing if they fire him after the year he had and the call he made by selling the ownership on Rivers and letting Brees go then I will never ever have an ounce of respect for that organazation again. Marty is one of the better and more respected coaches in the league for the last 15 years.

as rare as it is, i do agree with BLITZKRIEG.

schottenheimer is great at maximizing minimal talent, which is exactly what we need at this point.

but even if he does leave SD, i think there will be a lot of teams going after him.

Dude, Marty has a loaded team right now, loaded because of AJ Smith. Minimal talent? I don't think so.

Washington was a flop, he had some very good talent at KC and Cleveland and always came up short, hence a big part of the reason why hes had so many different head coaching gigs.

Marty is just good enough to get you beat in the end.

I'll take Smith for GM before I would want Schottenheimer for coach. Especially if Marty loses his in their first playoff game with that team he has right now!

Please no to Marty!!! He may go down in history as the best coach who couldn't win big games. If we're happy with the mediocrity that has characterized this team, then Marty is our guy.

Okay, what I don't get is you'll take Marty Schottenheimer and his ludicrous "Marty ball" over his son, Brian, who is a heckuva lot younger and can develop into a good coach? Makes no sense....

If he looses this weekend and gets canned then why would we pick him up? We want to get better and not just have a better regular season. Find a coach that can take us all the way. Also, I really like the idea of having a young coach who is fresh and has many years ahead of him.
