Marvez: Dolphins draft has been universally panned

It has not been universally panned. Most people have a problem with the "reach" of James. But otherwise I am hearing very positive things. There is a difference of opinion on Landry and Lynch for the most part among some. A lot of folks like Tripp, Turner, and Aikens.

Apart from the "reach" for James, everyone believes this is a solid draft.

Very few sexy picks but all solid picks.

Listened to marvez's interview. His criticisms are simply stupid.

Rolando McClain, David Carr, Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russell, Akili Smith, Charles Rogers, Roy Williams, Courtney Brown. I mean those are just a handful of top ten picks in the last 15-20 years that were regarded as great picks that failed miserably. So I'll judge our drafts in 3-4 years.

Just a quick representative check of our grades are all over the place. A few of the negatives come from "independents" and SB's more national negative comes from hating us taking the James pick where we did, making a blind assumption that we could have traded down and secured him while actually making the unbelievable observation that we don't know whereon the line we'll start him which negates anything that follows... and then more or less calling Jarvis Landry an indulgence pick that may work out. So consider the sources. I've always considered Mando to be Marvez-light and at that point wondered what skeletons they were aware of for either of them to secure their jobs.

Bottom-line: none of these self-professed expert cloistered vacuum-visionaries sitting in their lazyboys without scouting reports and years of blood sweat and tear learning experiences, know diddly, either way.

Sporting News Vinnie Lyer: "D"

The reason some of these grades are so low is because most of these arm chair scouts didn't scout the small school players we drafted while Daniel Jeremiah, Charles Davis and Mike Mayock from NFL Network loved the Walt Aikens, Jordan Tripp and Matt Hazel picks. Everyone seems to agree on Jarvis Landry except for a few people hung up on 40 times. Truth is, if we hit on 3 of the 8 picks we're above average for the NFL and I think James, Landry and Turner are solid picks. If any of the other 5 turn into a starter or major contributor this draft was a huge success.

Lol. that's not the point. the point is it wasn't universally panned. i never said mel kiper is a credible draft guy. but when you think of draft scouting the first person that comes to mind is generally mel kiper.

To all the idiots sure. I think of Mayock not Kiper. Kiper is the worst!

the NFL is a huge business, if anyone really knew(Bill Polian is my hero) they would be rich and those who get to pretend to know make a really good living.

I remember Kiper was screaming how Sergio Kindle was the BPA and it turned out that in the real circles Kindle was damaged goods

Marvez hates the Phins, I watched CNNSI "expert" Don Banks talk about the draft and he based his opinion on MOCK DRAFT TRENDS!!!!

how the **** do you get that job? I have a computer and can gauge mock draft trends. Haters like Marvez and Banks spin crappy uneducated opinions to fit their pre-conceived notions of which organizations they favor. the Dolphins orgs have sucked and embarrassed us, so that means this draft sucks?

Don Banks has ALWAYS **** on us so it didn't surprise me that his opinion is based on jack ****. I take more stock from guys who actually have a resume. what history do the ESPN clowns have? its embarrassing how much stock is put into mock drafts. I don't know ****, for my money we would draft a G who couldn't play ZBS to save his life, I bet McShay doesn't know that either.

Career

Kiper said that Ernie Accorsi, the general manager of the then-Baltimore Colts, encouraged him to become a draft analyst. Accorsi told him that there was a market for draft information and that Kiper should convert his expertise into a business.[1] Kiper and fellow draft analyst Todd McShay are often featured together and compare their mock drafts on ESPN programs.

nice resume, you deserve to rate the drafting of very young men?

You mean like your work Alex? At least when the season starts, and Miami start winning games, and looking better then last year, those so called few (Universally, Really? really) panning the Dolphins will probably step back and have to admit they were wrong, you on the other hand will continue to be a hack.

There are some writers who definitely like or dislike certain teams. Mike Florio is a lifelong Steelers fan, and it shows. Jeff Darlington can't wait to say positive things about the Dolphins. Peter King loves the Patriots more than anything on this earth. And yes, a number of national writers don't like the Dolphins.

If you're looking for a more neutral take on the Dolphins from a national guy, I'd recommend someone like Peter King (he loves the Patriots and Packers but I think he's pretty even keel on most other teams), or Chris Mortensen. They're both guys who will be quick to point out the bad, but also acknowledge the good. Jason La Canfora, Alex Marvez, Jason Cole, and Pete Prisco are all guys who immediately come to mind that basically need to have their teeth pulled to say nice things about anything related to the Dolphins. With Cole and Marvez it's understandable, as they were both local beat writers who had sour relationships with the Dolphins front office and burned bridges on the way out, making it impossible for them to get scoops.

I think it was either Prisco or La Canfora who picked the Dolphins to go 0-16 last season. Funny stuff.

Prisco throws out the 4.77 on Landry in calling that a bad pick. Landry may not be a burner, but that's about as ignorant as it get when it comes to evaluating a player. It's takes 5 seconds on Google to figure out that Jarvis Landry's combine time is not representative of his real speed, and shouldn't be considered at all.

Its silly to grade a draft right after it occurs.

The only thing sillier is the re-drafts. Case in point; In 2016, "experts" will claim the phins should have taken X rather than Ja'waun James.
