What is it with Alex Marvez. He justified wanny's crackpot coaching until the very last year, when only then, did a crack in the apologia armor become evident. Now he twists himself into a prezzel trying to affix blame on the players for that moronic 2-pt converstion attempt.

You can read it here. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...306,0,1144278.column?coll=sfla-dolphins-front

Below are some snippets, and my comments:

In laying some blame on Brown: "While the left-handed Brown was a good enough high school baseball player to become a low-level draft pick by the Seattle Mariners, his football passing needs work. Brown threw across his body while on the move, forcing wide receiver Marty Booker to stop and try to change direction for the catch."

No kidding? How strong was Brown's arm at the NFL combine? Is there a scouting report on his QB skills I missed? Maybe Brown should spend more time with the QB coaches instead of trying to figure out how to make the best possible runs with a terrible offensive line, right?
Now he's supposed be able to throw like a QB, and make QB-like decisions under pressure when passing the football? Unreal, I can't believe any credible sports writer would dare criticize a RB because his passing "needs work."

And:

"Culpepper's first blocking option was eliminated when tight end Randy McMichael bumped into Texans (and former Dolphins) linebacker Morlon Greenwood at the line of scrimmage. Greenwood, though, regrouped to avoid another Culpepper blocking attempt and charged toward Brown to force the pass."

OK, lets criticize DC's QB performance all we want, for most if it is justified. But like Brown's passing skills, DC isn't paid to make blocks -- and less still, find a new guy to block when his original assignment is tangled up with another player.

Only one person is to blame for this, period. Mulurky (2, if Saban approved it). I'm not saying you never try trick plays, but you surly don't try it with the game on the line on the final play and up near the goaline where the endzone runs out in 10 yards -- meaning if something goes wrong, there's no real estate to improvise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live an hour and a half from Buffalo and listen to their talk radio everyday (it's the only NFL talk I can get here). They were laughing their a--ses off when we got MM -- and rightfully so. As bad as they were last year, he alone cost them a few close games. The comeback against Mia was triggered by a foolish pass into the endzone on the 1 yrd line, with a rookie QB, and a 20+ point lead. But there are many more. If you can count on MM to do one thing, it's to get away from what is working (and in our case, not much works to begin with).

DC is a problem, yes, but with MM calling plays it's a toxic combination. This is going to get worse before it gets better as long as those two are still working together.

Saban is the one who called the play isnt he? I dont like the play either way, not going to get into it.

But on another note, whats today? tuesday, lets ahead to next sunday. We have a big game coming up, win and we can get a shock of life into the team to carry over, lose, and well, pack our bags for the season.

Saban may have approved the call,a nd that's bad enough, but in NO WAY did he propose it -- not matter what he says. This is PURE MM, all the way..

Saban had a set of headphones on and he heard the call down to sidelines and didn't over-ride the call. I just can't bear to watch the game this weekend, I have an awlful feeling in my stomach what the out-come is going to be, and the play calling, OL, and Cpep will not make any better

Salisbury jujst said on 790 the plays wasnt executed properly.. So maybe there is some credibility to it.
the pass was incomplete... bad call.. maybe... but you can make any call you want.. you execute it like we did... and they will all fail.

Sorry but this is a practiced play. It simply did not work. If it works and we score, then it's a innovative play as Saban mentioned. At least 3 things went wrong so it failed and now it's being second guessed, again as Saban mentioned.

Relax, whine, moan, cheer, but keep it reasonable. The article is fairly accurate, you just simply have an opposing point of view.

My only MM complaint is caries, Ronnie needs more.

I think MM could help the team with some quick passes 3 step drops and such. Not dump off passes but quick slant type plays where we have less chances of getting sacked. It could take some pressure off Daunte and the o-line give them a chance to get in rhythm.

first off the play was ridiculous. I agree with everyone ripping it. Having said that, the pass was on the money and probably wouldve resulted in a score if not for mario williams coming in from the left and barely tipping it

Funny thing is...IF the 2pt conversion worked and we won the game, Saban would have been a GENIOUS!

Why do we discuss a play, when all the game our offense sucked!!!! If we play like we are supposed to, then a trick play would not be necessary at any moment of the game, and our final offensive drive would end on the simple trickiest play there is on a game, the QB Knee on the ground!

Adam is right. The ball was tipped and that caused it to change direction and end any chance for the play to work. It's that simple.

AMEN!!!! Everyone is losing sight that we lost to the Texans folks. We almost lost to Tenn at home. We are a very bad team right now. The only shot I give this team against NE is because we usually play well against them. We need to run it 40 times and let the D TRY and keep it close - otherwise C-Pep will be picking his butt off the turf every series.

You can make that argument and with some it would be true but I can't say my view of it would have changed.

My reaction would have been basically in the realm of "thank god that worked and how pathetic is it that we have to resort to these types of calls for a 2 point conversion."

YES!! Quick slants!! We actually ran at least two last week and I think one was dropped that would have scored, Booker I think. The other was for a first down IIRC. I don't understand why we don't 1) screen more, 2) slant more, 3) run more.

However, the plays now would be fine if the OL gave Dante more than 2 seconds to set up, scan and throw. Teams are blitzing us now, we need the screen in more.
