With offensive coordinator Bill Lazor coming to Miami from Chip Kelly’s system in Philadelphia, the Dolphins are showing some of thesame schemes/concepts that we saw in 2013 on the Eagles' tape. Here’s an example of that from Friday night with quarterback Ryan Tannehill running the “swap” boot in the red zone off the mesh action in the backfield to hit wide receiver Brandon Gibson on the quick flat route for a touchdown.
Let’s break this down and focus on the coverage responsibilities in the Falcons secondary.

Good find. I wish he didn't show any of his cards in the preseason though. That would have been a nice first TD against the Patriots. Hopefully there is a ton of plays where showing this can serve as a decoy

doesnt matter, they will simply run more stuff out of this set. they cover this guy, go to that guy. its like the read option where the LB came at RT, then he threw to Gibson.

It's not a trick play. As Bowen shows, Tannehill is reading the backside defender (#36). If 36 had switched to zone -- or if it had been a zone all along -- and covered Gibson in the flat, Tannehill would have given the ball to Miller, who would have had an easy path to the end zone on a cutback. Because the 36 stayed home and showed man to man responsibility on Miller, it meant that Gibson would be wide open.

When was the last time we saw such a wide open touchdown play in the redzone? Probably was a couple last year but just don't recall. Last year it seemed like we had to work so hard to score a touchdown 90 percent of the time. That has to change for this offense to move up the rankings.
