Matt Burke, greatest DC of all time?

Probably our biggest move of the offseason. I thought VJ did a very good job with what he had.

Gase & Co. had a plan going back to last year. I'm optimistic about it.

There is danger in over-hyping our coaches. I can vaguely remember how Bill Lazor was going to be a terrific Offensive Coordinator and was destined to be snapped up as a Head Coach -. Matt Burke is clearly a smart guy and I like that he presents some continuity in Defensive system. We have added more Defensive talent via free agency with players like William Hayes, Laurence Timmons, TJ McDonald and Nate Allen and I expect a lot more from the Draft. Time will tell which players contribute.
I like the fact that Gase immediately decided to appoint Burke rather than interview others (more experienced) for the job, when Vance Joseph accepted the Denver role. That tells me that Gase had no doubt who he wanted running the Defense. Another Head Coach may have interviewed Burke and the best of the others available, but Gase knew who he wanted.

Rather have him than Joseph. Joseph was underwhelming. I dont agree that Burke was so qualifed above others but I see no reason to not give hima chance

My title was more sarcasm than anything, but I agree that it's hard to run a defense with most of the LB corps hurt, your second round pick hurt for half the year, Reshad out for half the year. I don't expect the defense to be great but it should be better, especially with a strong draft.

Thank God. I assumed it was a late April fools gag, and then I started to read the comments, and I facepalmed hard. Our D was very underwhelming last year. I really wish we had taken the D in a different direction, rather than stick with a system that failed miserably last year.

Me too! The wide 9 defense sucks!

Joseph sucked. It's like he never studied opposing teams weaknesses/strengths and would use our 1st half tape to come up with his gameplay. By then it was usually too late. I don't want another reactionary DC. I don't want another DC that will take a half season to figure our what kind of players he has. Matt Burke better not be Joseph v2.

Famous last words... Joseph may turn out to be a very good head coach. What Joseph lacked in Miami was Defensive player talent. He made the most out of what he had.

There was too many holes and too many injuries for us to have a consistent defense last year...just look who our safeties were at seasons end.

But how did we not win it all with this guy as our safety?

I agree "sucked" is a little strong, but he had some commonalities with his predecessor. Off coverage on 3rd and 4, no (minimal) adjustments til half time. To be fair, his D played well given the talent he had, but that doesn't excuse his weaknesses.

We did play off the ball a bit last year. I remember Jimmy Johnson playing our D the same way his first year with the phins. Jimmy admited he was doing that at the time because of the lack of talent on our defense that year. Wether that was a coincidence that VJ played the same way remains to be seen but we will know for sure this year as the Broncos defense is loaded with talent compared to our phins.

I would settle for a DC that can be half as good as Bill Arnsparger was. Now that was a real DC who used what he had and always made it work. Still remember one year when we used to run the 3-4 and we had some injuries to our LB's so he was then running a 4-3 and he still made it work. I don't like it when a DC has to run HIS scheme regardless of what players he has. You need to be flexible

Ozzy rules!!

Also I would like our ole OLine coach back we had under Shula, used castoffs and late picks for some stellar olines we had back then. Didn't need all this 1st rounders to play on the line like we have now.
