Matt Cassel to the Bills

I like the Cassell move. He will be a good veteran mentor to EJ which he didn't have his rookie year when Kevin Kolb slipped on a rubber mat. The Bills coaches obviously want EJ to win the job. If he does, great. If he doesn't he will not be a Bill next year and we get someone else.

EJ Manuel has a lot of talent but he was very raw when we drafted him and has only played 14 games. If we can get another guard in free agency or the draft our offense will be much better than last year. Last year the Bills number one weakness was starting the two worst guards in the NFL. That also didn't help EJ Manuel play as well as we hoped. He did look good against the Dolphins though...

Fred Jackson is awesome but he hit the wall last year and will now most likely be a good 3rd down option and can get 8-10 carries a game.

I think the Cassell move also signals they aren't giving up on EJ. Cassell is a guy EJ can beat out.

Mark has options, it would make no sense to put all their eggs in one basket. A) mark isn't good enough where they should just wait on that one player and b) if they do wait and another team signs him then what? they could get stuck w/ Matt Moore/Kyle orton type and have no chance to win.

The part in bold is the main point. That doesn't translate to Rex thinking Mark is a loser, but he doesn't view him as highly as you do. Mark is in with the likes of the rest of the poor free agent QB class. Sanchez will have options just like McCown had options, but if Rex really though highly of Mark, he could have easily signed him in a few days. He isn't a highly sought after QB, so with the familiarity between him and Rex, and the opportunity to start, the Bills could have had him if they really wanted him.

Cassell isn't much better of an option over any of the rest of the QBs, so the Bills would have had nothing to lose by waiting to sign Sanchez. The bottom line is that they didn't wait because they didn't want him.

He's the best of the FA class for whatever that is worth. he is not a franchise changer though Rex knows he can win with him. also remember Rex has a new OC so this would his 5th system in 5 seasons. Buffalo would have been a bigger threat w/ Mark but they got impatient, there will be plenty of opportunities for Mark including possibly staying in Philly.

Apparently, Rex also thinks he can win as much with Cassel. McCown had plenty of opportunities. I'm sure Sanchez will have some as well. That doesn't say much when there isn't anything out there. Mark should want to sign somewhere he has a chance to start. If he ends up staying in Philly, it will be as a backup. Quality starters don't resign with teams to be a backup.

Buffalo is the clear #2 in the AFC East right now. If Cassell or Manuel give them decent QB play they can do some serious damage. Alonso was expendable, that D was great w/o him. Buffalo is going to be very dangerous in the AFC next year, I think they will push NE more than any team has since the Jets beat them out for the '02 div title.
I wouldn't agree with that at all. Decent QB play rarely equates to serious damage and decent is a best case scenario for Cassel or Manuel. A young, cheap, pro bowl caliber LB is not expendable for any team in this league and people insisting that Buffalo losing a resource is irrelevant are completely off base. The only thing clear in the AFC East is which team will be dead last next year.

NYG won 2 SBs w/ decent QB play, Bal & NYJ made multiple title games w/ decent QB play. Buf has the potential to have an absolutely dominating defense. they have some weapons in the pass game and a GREAT 1-2 punch at RB.

But their o-line is garbage, and Cassel/Manuel are not as good as Eli or Flacco.

You might contend with poor QB play if you have a dominant defense and an offensive line that is at least good. However, that line is not good, and Buffalo will struggle to run consistently in a division where they may face three Top 10 rushing defenses.

Basically, they need to catch a couple of breaks, find a diamond in the rough or two via the draft or free agency. It could happen, but you can say the same about 15 other teams in the league that aren't in the top tier.

Dallas' OL sucked 2 years ago and last year they were one of the best. we'll see, offseason is just beginning.
