Matt Flynn was a back up to.....

And Brett Favre was a third-string emergency backup behind Chris Miller AND, of all people, Billy Joe F'N Tolliver! What's your point?

Since you apparently don't know jack crap about LSU football, let an LSU alum and season ticket holder fill you in on what actually happened.

Flynn outplayed JR in every practice and intersquad contest. The entire offense was clamoring for him to be the starting Qb. However we have Les Miles who as the entire world knows by now doesn't possess good judgement skills when it comes to choosing the right Qb to start for his teams (see Jordan Jefferson). JR got the nod even though everyone else knew Flynn was the better Qb. JR leaves, Flynn takes over the team, and promptly leads LSu to a National Championship.

Next time, how about some actual relevant information regarding Matt Flynn other than things that were out of his control. If Michigan knew Tom Brady was a future NFL hall of famer, you think he would have been a backup? How about all the NFL teams that passed on Aaron Rodgers in the draft, think they would like a do-over? As a player, all you can do is wait for your chance and do the best with it. Matt Flynn waited for his chance at LSU, and when given it he won a NC. He waited his chance at Green Bay, and all he done with it was have 2 outstanding performances against 2 playoff teams and actually set FRANCHISE RECORDS in the process. But yeah, I guess we should go with your insight, seeing as how much thought you put in it.
:rolleyes2:

I agree with ya though. I just have a feeling that this guy will get paid huge and for no reason.

Well no offense, but if you agree that Russell was a great college QB, then what are you trying to prove in this thread? Flynn is still in the league, Russell is not. So clearly the one that we are targeting is the one that WANTS to suceed in this league

The thread was to remind people that are so sold on him that he is clearly unproven. I was getting tired of seeing people say the guy is the next great thing when he has a two game track record and 1 season of college ball. LSU guy up there clarified some things.

Very true, I agree that nobody should sit here and say he's a GREAT QB. But, on the other side of things, we have Philbin as our coach. He's worked with him for 4 years, he knows what his capabilities are. If Philbin believes that Flynn can be a successful franchise QB, why doubt it?

It's more because of how the past has went. I think its been 16-17 QB's since Marino all have failed one way or the other and I'm looking for a brand name QB or 1st round pick QB compared to another guy.

And then Flynn won a national title. Convenient of you to leave out his senior year.

Which is completely understandable. Hell, I'm even on board with that thinking. But at the same time, I feel like EVERY new coach is looking for that. And like I said, if Philbin feels comfortable with Flynn being that guy, then why not believe in it?

Les has to be the most loyal coach I've ever seen. It is his biggest fault, IMO.

Yeah he has cost us at least 1 NC if not 2, and is an idiot sometimes. But he is our idiot and I am more than happy with him as our HC. Same as I am loyal to the Miami Dolphins and have been since I was in diapers, and it's hard for me to read these boards sometimes and see all the fair-weather fans talking about being "done with this franchise". Id prefer the bandwagoners to move on and leave the loyal fans alone.
