Now I know Gase only was with Cutler for one season, but Forte was with Cutler from 09-16. Another wrinkle in this belly-busting offense is pass catching from the backfield and the potential we have with our talent. Miami was awful last year and in prior seasons with pass catching from backs. NE does it all the time, and is a key-chain-moving play. It gets you to 3rd and short, it opens up many possibilities. Forte had total yards from scrimmage since 09 of:
2009 1400
2010 1600
2011 1500
2012 1400
2013 1900 Cutler was hurt
2014 1800 Cutler played 15 games
2015 1200 13 games
2016 1000 Cutler gone

I averaged for each year. Not using exact numbers.

The year Forte had 1800 yards in 2014, Cutler was 3800/28/18. That's a decent season, knowing that Gase will cut down the picks and the Bears defense that season was very bad. Miami's talent this year is so much better than Chicago's that year, despite having Jeffrey, Forte and Marshall

I'm hoping he succeeds because I don't want to see a wasted season but claiming this years phins are more talented is absurd. Which one of our backs has ever caught 102 passes? You left out Martellus Bennett and his 90 catches. Until Parker proves it in games he's nothing more than hype right now.

Cutler's career speaks for itself. He was brought into Chicago to be their franchise qb to build around and it didn't work. Much of the excuses I've read on this board are the same ones used for Tannehill the past 4 years.

Thansk God the 2018 draft is loaded with QBs.

We were awful last year because our backs weren't good at it with the exception of Williams. Drake, IMO, was a disappointment as a receiver and Ajayi didn't set up his blocks well after the catch. Most of the time he out ran the O-line...not that the O-line shouldn't take some blame here because they were slow getting to the second level to set up screens.

Matt Forte is a special back who can run and catch. I'm not sure how anyone can credit Jay Cutler with his success and think that will automatically transfer to this group of backs. That's a reach.

I never said at all Cutler made Forte successful. But He was part of an offense that threw to TE's and Backs. Cutler did throw the ball, right? Well wit that kind of EXPERIENCE and combined with the fact that we just didn't do that here, no matter the offense, our offense could take leaps that can get us from ranked in the mid 20's to much higher. Next time don't mis quote me

I didn't misquote you. You insinuate that Forte and the talent with the Dolphins are similar and I quote "Another wrinkle in this belly-busting offense is pass catching from the backfield and the potential we have with our talent." and therefor, our backs will be better catching the ball out of the backfield simply because Cutler is now the QB. That is what you are inferring.

My point is that we did try this last year and we were unsuccessful for a number of reasons...our backs not running routes well enough or dropping passes, the O-line not being able to block properly for the screen game and our backs not setting up their blocks when they did catch it. Gase tried running screens with Tannehill and Moore and neither had success. I think the bigger issue was the O-line without Mike Pouncey cause he's the best at getting to the second level.
