Strengths:
The highly touted Gutierrez posses the ideal physical build for NFL success, at a solid 6-4. He has good arm strength and good mechanics. Gutierrez has good accuracy and touch on the ball and can make most NFL throws.
Weaknesses:
Rowe suffered a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder that derailed a promising career. Because of the injury, Guitierrez is still very raw, having gained most of his experience at Idaho State. He will be forced to take several years to learn the NFL system from NFL coaches. He does not have very good mobility and will take some big hits in the pocket.
Overall:
Originally a Michigan recruit after going undefeated in California high school football, he transferred after his injury forced him to lose the starting job to Chad Henne. Gutierrez is an interesting prospect because of his raw ability, but any team that drafts him must be willing to give him time to develop.

I actually had a chance to see him play at De La Salle HS and he was very highly recruited. If not for the injury, who knows where he would be ranked. I think he is one of the great sleeper picks.

Gutierrez---Steve Young career path?

Glad to see Gutierrez getting the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his future development.

I had the pleasure to get to know Matt personally during the filming of a documentary I produced about his alma mater De La Salle high school and the program's 12 year, 151 game win streak. Of those games Gutierrez was at the helm from 1999-2002 during which time he never lost a game; winning 37 straight.

During filming of "Perfect Effort" www.perfecteffort.com Gutierrez was only 16 years old, but exhibited the poise and focus of an athlete twice his age. De La Salle Head Coach Bob Ladouceur called him the greatest natural leader he'd ever seen at the high school level. He's got all the tools both physically and mentally to have a long career in the league. If you're interested find out at bit more about his time at De La Salle, www.perfecteffort.com offers a great experience inside the Spartans streak and shows some special kids many of whom have also gone on to NFL careers--(DJ Williams, Maurice Jones-Drew, Demitrius Williams, Kevin Simon, and Matt Leinart/Mater Dei)

Interesting prospect. No doubt he'll get some buzz. Considering Mueller's history of drafting QB's en masse, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Mueller draft another QB.

I think the Patriots signed him, but I'm not positive.

Edit: I was correct. The Patriots signed him as an UDFA

He's a long shot, but $665,000 for two years...not quite practice squad money.

that video on de la salle is pretty cool...gutierrez looks like a leader
