I just got my July 18th ESPN the Magazine in the mail.....there is a really good article in there about Matt Leinart and how he turned down millions of dollars to stay at USC (He has a sweet looking girlfriend too...I guess that is why he stayed???)...anyway, in the article it says that his coach, Pete Carroll, called the coaches/administrators of the 49ers, Dolphins, and Browns before the draft to see if they would be interested in picking Leinart for the 2005 draft, and Carroll said that Nick Saban told him that, "there is no way we are going to draft a QB with the #2 pick." So it looks like even if Leinart would have come out, Nick still would not have taken a QB.....

I just hope we get a shot at Leinart next year....it is not about the money with this guy and he is a great QB and leader....if he is not around, I think Omar Jacobs of Bowling Green is our guy.

SORRY...I don't have a link for the Leinart story....it is on page 80 of the July18th issue...with Willis McGahee and a friend working at Burger King on the cover.

Man it looks like Saban was planning on taking Ronnie from the get go. I'm not so sure how much I beleive that he would have passed on Leinart but you never know.

Well it could simply be about the money.

I mean it is widely speculated that there might not be a cap next season. If this is true and Leinart can stay healthy which draft at #1 do you think he would have cashed in more?

If Feeley doesn't pan out I would like to go after him. I don't like any of the other choices Jacobs, Leak. I don't really like any of them.

But I don't think that we will be in the top 10 either.

Ya know what if Leinart would've declared I think he would be a 49er and Alex Smith would be a Miami Dolphin right now. If D'Brickshaw Fergusan would've came out probably could've been taken ahead of Brown also. I think Ronnie Brown will be a very good RB, and I hated the idea of taking Braylon Edwards, but to me a RB has little value at the top of the draft. Basically for Brown to be worth the 2nd pick in the draft he'll have to be a great RB. I preferred Benson to Brown, and think that because there really was nobody who just blew teams away at say LT, DT, and because Rodgers stock fell so much a running back had to be taken.

If this is something that Pete Carroll sat on until now, it is probably because Saban asked him not to tell anyone until after the draft. I don't doubt it though, Saban may have simply decided that a QB was not right for this team, not in this draft. I don't think that means he concluded anything positive about AJ Feeley, just that he has an agenda and may figure that he needs to add the right quarterback to the mix after he's put a few pieces in place.

If the way Saban has acted until now is any indicator, even if he wants Leinart, he isn't going to say because another team will try and get him to trade up next year.

A lot can happen between now and then, Leinart could have a mediocre to bad year, next year, and no longer be at the top of the draft board, but still be a 1st rounder. If Miami selects at 20 or something, the 19th team could express interest in Leinart just to try and get Miami to trade up. So Saban isn't going to say either way, smart move.

We could go completely different route next year and draft a LT and get a QB through free agency, but Saban still isn't going to say, "we want to draft Leinart." That's something Wanny did.

How do we know if that story is true? I mean Edwards took it to the bank that we were going to take him. :confused2

I Truely Belive Being That Saban Is Such A Defensive Minded Coach That He Knows The Importance Of A Running Game So He Took The Best Rb Available R.brown. :nesucks: :billsbite :jetssuck: :rocker:

It's not about the money for him while he is playing catch with the most talented team in the country right now, and is probably be treated VERY fairly by boosters and the such while his living expenses and educations is paid for by the school and hes still in the phase of life where coming home piss drunk at 7am is perfectly acceptable. As soon as he get himself an agent and declares for the draft, and is off USC's bar tab, it will be ALL about the money for him. At least thats how I see it.
