Just reading a thread on the brownsboard forum discussing who to keep next year with Roth on almost everyone's list with 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 4 games.

Obviously the FO had their reasons which we may never end up knowing (although Rosenhaus is a bigmouth so maybe we will), but I can't help feeling that Sunday's results might have been different with Roth lining up for us.

i can't believe we still don't know what happened there. he pissed somebody off royally - that much is known. what he did or who he did it too is still a mystery. that move made no sense on our part. releasing players that have value at that point in the season is not smart.

Matt Roth was a non-factor in his entire career here. That he has gone to the Browns and looked good compared to the rest of what is undoubtedly an absolutely terrible team doesn't say much.

If he had wanted to play for the Dolphins, he would have been on the field at some point this year. This entirely average player must have had a hissy fit when they brought in a future HOF player to take some snaps at his position, but thats the way it goes in the NFL and if he can't handle that then he doesn't deserve to be on this team.

Anderson, Torbor, Wake, Taylor, and Porter all bring more to this team than Roth would have this year.

Yeah this year. Then next year Taylor and Porter become that much older. Would have been nice to have Roth filling in the gaps while the old men were getting oxygen on the sidelines. Obviously we will see other players coming in but I didn't like the move. But oh well, it happened and I could care less why.

Last year he was our best LB against the run, and was 2nd in sacks (even though he was taken out on obvious passing downs), and before that, he was one of our best LB in 07. Matt Roth has not been a Non-factor, maybe he never the players most expected him to be, but he was still a dam good player with some injury problems.

Matt Roth was one of best players last year..

He not very good before that..

He should have show'd up and played great for us this year..instead he faked an injury or did something to piss off the phins..

We should not have cut him..they should have just deactivated him..but what can you do

i find it strange that the day roth was released, all the knuckle heads were cheering and whatnot, and they didnt even know what he brought to the table. glad someone has brought it up.

By that logic, the decision makers were knuckleheads.

I'm thrilled he's gone. The Saints would still be unbeaten, as far as I'm concerned, if Roth had stayed.

He always got false credit for plays he wasn't involved with, so let's keep that trend going.

1. how do you figure?

2. i give him credit if i see him on the tv making a tackle or setting the edge or making a sack.

I'm still in shock that we received NOTHING for him
Not a very smart move by the front office to allow someone
with his ability to walk and get SQUAT in return.

Another head scratcher brought to you by our front office

His agent is Drew Rosenhaus, Parcells hates him with a passion. Roth tried to pull the stealth holdout and lie about an injury to get a contract extension or traded. The Dolphins weren't going to sign an extension after one decent season and injury questions with a guy they never really wanted. With no CBA Miami controlled his rights next season, so he wasn't going anywhere, so he had no leverage.

Rosenhaus has him try the stealth holdout and he lies to Sparano. They stashed him on the PUP to kill his market value and released him after the trade dealine, so he ends up going to a scrub team. Message sent to team and to Rosenhaus at the expense of a marginal player. We haven't missed him this season, we are just fine without him. He can enjoy Cleveland in winter for the stunt that he tried to pull. Sorry, but he followed the advice of Rosenhaus and it cost him.

sounds like a good move if you're roth. he went from blending into an average defense, to being a top player on a scrub team. and he'll make more money there than he would in miami.

but damn do i hate him for whatever he did.

Cleveland will control his rights next season, so unless they sign him to a new deal he plays for peanuts for them next season. If they release him, his numbers aren't very good. He has had one decent season, a history of injuries, and the word is out on his stealth holdout.

Are you referring to Roth setting the edge..., because Roth is a lumbering LB and can't catch any RBs... And then there was the "smoke"... so I'm guessing where there is smoke there is possibly a fire between Agent and Mr. Parcells...

Roth is well into his career and if these players were doing better than him, then that makes him a mediocre player. Obviously you've gotta bring other guys in to fill the roster out when Porter and Taylor are gone, but Roth being essentially a mediocre veteran at this point means that he is as disposable as the next guy.
