I didnt see any threads on him but i didnt get to see the whole game i pretty much missed all the starters bc i was working but what stood out most to me was Roth he had a sack and it just looked like everytime the ball was hiked he was mauling the panthers line to get to the qb to at least give some pressure, i hope he has a solid year this year and ends up taking jt's place one day

Matt Roth was an animal last night. It was nice to see some production out of him and i hope he can contribute to our defense in a big way this year.

That play where they didn't block him assuming the RB would just run past him to get to the outside was awesome. Just like a lot of the young guys...he's coming along. Notice that he wasn't one of the D-line that was on the trading block.

that was just good discipline by roth... those misdirection plays you hope the DE will bite in and the RB would have the outside lane, but roth held his outside containment and was able to run down williams... that was a great play

Roth played GREAT last night. 4 tackles, 1 for a lost in the open field on the speedy DeAngelo Williams, and a sack. Now that is the Roth I have watched at Iowa for 4 years. He looks outstanding he put on some weight in the off season and has not lost a step. Expect big things from #98 this year. No sophmore lump for this guy.

No offense, but that phrase is generally used for players that had great rookie seasons. And while I'm a big fan of Roth, I think its safe to say last season was nothing special for him.

This is what seperates good coaches from bad ones: an eye for talent. Matt Roth was a decent player in the Big 10, not someone with the hype of an A.J. Hawk or Chad Greenway, but good coaches (like Saban) can look at the little things that players do well, and envision them fitting into the system. Roth has good technique and plays with a very low pad level, things that are tough to teach d-lineman if they haven't learned it already by time they are done w/ school.

I think the sack was more about discipline than athleticism. I forget who it was -- Evans? -- but one of our tackles blew up the pocket and forced the QB outside, and DeAngelo Williams chipped the left tackle who was blocking Roth, putting Roth on top of the QB. But last night was clearly the best that Roth has played since he's been here and I am glad to see him do in a game what the veterans have been seeing in practice.

roth had a good night, he can be a force this year he just has to go out and show it. good technique, strength, speed, and he plays with attitude, i really like the guy and look forward to seeing him play this season.

I would expect that from a Gator.

Roth looked extremely impressive last night you can see what kind of player we are going to be watching when JT retires

A decent player in college? Did you see him play in college? Decent is a gross understatement and I'm a Purdue Man so I've seen tearing my Boilers up for four years before he got here. He was a projected late first rounder. I don't see how you can be a decent player and go in the eraly second round.:shakeno:

Perhaps I used the wrong word - all I meant to say was that he wasn't as touted as Greenway or Abdul Hodge coming out of Iowa.
