JT and Roth played TERRIBLY last year...
I agree, I think he will be much better this year because he did have a bad groin injury that bothered him all of last season and he said he feels 100% now so I think it will be a breakout year for him.
Actually, those of you that posted that "he wasn't that bad" didn't break down film on him. 5 of the biggest runs given up by the defense were when he was on the field and the play ran RIGHT at him.
He's not STOUT enough at the point of attack and with the inconsistency we experienced at the NT position as well as the DE position by letting our veterans go, ROTH just didn't have enough to hold up his end of the scheme's responsibilities.
And even when he WAS playing well, he would hold up his end for 3 seconds and then over run in persuit one way or another.
Jason Taylor got his sacks last year LATE in games when the contests were pretty much decided. If you break down film of him, he was blocked one on one FAIRLY easily all year long. Once a team comes out and has success blocking JT one on one, they didn't fear blocking ROTH the same way.
Theoretically, JT is SUPPOSED to be so good that he needs to be doubled which would leave Roth man to man and give him sack opportunities. Both JT and ROTH were so impotent as pass rushers that defenses blocked them MAN UP and doubled the tackles instead to create HUGE holes up the middle.
I believe that JT WOULD have been traded a WHILE ago if teams hadn't watched last year's film. I'm telling you, ignore the 11 sacks. Look at the penetration he got in the first quarter of EVERY game he played.... Yep, zero. He made the opposing OC job VERY, VERY easy.
All they had to do was run RIGHT up the middle behind double teams and then play action fake off of that for big gains.
JT should be traded for whatever the heck we can get and ROTH has GOT to be considered a second round BUST at this point. He's trade-bait as well. We need to go ANOTHER direction and that's EXACTLY what Parcell's saw when he broke down the tape. We were COLLAPSING at the point of attack. Which is why he traded for FERGUSON and drafted 2 DE's.
So, don't expect to see much of Roth and JT beyond this year, regardless of what THEY'RE playing plans are. Quite simply, when you pop in the tape... It's not lying. Jason Taylor is DONE. And Matt Roth NEVER WILL BE.
Go Phins!
