Matt Roth

I haven't seen anything from him in the games so, hopefully he can do more than just get into fights.

Showing a lot of effort with little results...He is what was advertised a High motor guy with a quick first step unfortunalty so far it hasnt been enough to make an impact. He is going to have to learn some moves and how to set-up O-lineman...He has some work to do.

He looked rather slow the times I have seen him. :(

i feared this, you cant just bull rush in the nfl and get by. he has shorter arms but with a year of nfl strength training under his belt and guys to look at for examples like jt, holliday, carter and bowens he has a chance to learn quickly. i think too many people set their expectations too high, we have a talented defensive line and letting the game slow down for roth and for him to hone his skills for a year or two will be good for him.

He has a nonstop motor and is extremely quick off the line. However he needs to learn more technique of how to disengage O-linemen... He kinda gets "stuck" on them. It is gunna take some time and patience...

Im thinking with his shorter arms a nice Rip move would do nicely.

A spin move would also be a nice addition... He will learn... I have seen him play personally and played DE in high school so I know that position better than any others... He has all the physical tools and his quickness off the line is something I would have killed for... He just needs to learn...

Echos my statments after the draft when this "steal" (yes, hes a good pick) joined your team...

I mentioned his lack of varity in his rush, I mentioned him being raw, I mentioned watching him do very well against college talent and how it would take time for him to become great "(ala Chris Kelsay who was billed almost entirely the same way and drafted in nearly the same spot)

but what did I get?.... Troll.... Homer......MAXIMUS!!!!

I'm not lying to you guys, I've seen the guy play. He could become very good, he'll probably be a good starter, but never a JT, Strahan, Peppers...etc...

The only problem I have with that statement is the fact that JT was never supposed to be JT.

And every once in a while you get a diamond in the rough...every once in a while...

Roth could set the sack record, but he'll probably just be good. I'm sorry if I think his ceiling is good.... good is still good... a solid starter, won't hurt you, will make some plays.

Thats really the M.O. of a Saban player anyway isn't it?

Many of us labeled him a poor man's David Pollack after the draft. Make that very poor. I shouldn't judge so quickly, but so far Roth has looked shockingly small and underwhelming. We really need to find spots to shake him free after the QB because I doubt he'll beat many decent blockers in this league. I've been trying to ignore how Khalif Barnes is faring in Jacksonville because I desperately wanted him in the spot we selected Roth. Barnes being available at #46 and beyond still baffles me. Huge upside, feet and a mean streak.

We keep hearing the problem about the short arms with this guy! I don't hear stuff about how he is overcoming this and improving!?!?! Yeah he is quick off the ball and so what...that is it from him, besides the high motor every play should have. All the people who drooled about him, posted photos of Matt Roth and his crazy-eyed look and wild tattoos have been quiet lately on here, which has been nice.
I see Roth putting on 30lbs. and becoming a defensive tackle....

- Nothing yet. Maybe next time out we'll see something.
