Matt Ryan to not throw at Combine?

I couldn't believe what I just heard on ESPN. Matt Ryan will be there to do the running, etc, but he's not going to throw? They said Scouts weren't too pleased with that.

Now, I will say that I like Ryan. Is he worthy of a #1, and all the money that comes with it? When compared to Beck, I say nay. But, he is a good QB. And I wish him well.

My question is, what are people's thoughts on those that refuse to participate in "particular" drills during the Combine. I mean, saying you want to wait for your NFL day, in my mind, is a cop-out. What do they have to lose, unless there is something they don't want seen?

Brady Quinn didn't participate. Neither did Russell. I didn't like it then, and I don't like seeing Ryan say he's not participating (if the report is correct).

I welcome opinions. Especially those of the "Ryan is God" mold.:)
 
I think its fairly common. Someone was on NFL network earlier today and said that the ProDay is the big day for the top echelon of QBs rather than the combine anyway. I wouldnt put much stock in it.
 
Because he knows it will hurt his stock. What other reason is there for him not to participate...

He doesnt want to end up like Quinn and be the last man standing, or sitting i mean.
 
They often have seperate workouts for teams that show real interest, or just wait for the Pro Day. Peyton Manning had a private workout with the Colts before they drafted him....I don't think Ryan has anything to prove...he also was in a QB skills competition the day before the Superbowl at the ASU campus in Tempe....he doesn't have the arm that Flacco has, but he moves around pretty well, and I think he is a top five pick no matter what he decides.
 
what i want to know is how this matt ryan guy went from not even in the top 10 after the senior bowl then all of a sudden i saw yesterday he was #2 overall on some boards without even doing anything. i dont think he is a first pick qb and i hope we don't pick him first overall(as some have us doing) just because "we need" a qb.

Agggreeee... I wouldnt even place him in the top 10 let alone top pick.
 
Ryan doesnt want to throw because it will show everyone that he really isn't any better than Flacco, Brohm and Henne. He will get exposed and all the hype surrounding him will take a dive. If he doesnt throw at the combine it keeps that sense he is still the top QB because of the clowns that hype him in the media. Actually, not throwing at the combine is a smart move on his part.
 
Ryan was the top QB coming out of the season, and a top QB is ALWAYS a top 10 pick, what are you guys talking about?

hype mino, and it's a good thing if we ain't buying, but are selling instead. Would it be better for us if Atlanta "lost" the flip of the coin? Might it make them "more" desperate?

tho "we" don't like it, Ryan is doing the prudent thing. He will do his throws at his place under tightly controlled conditions. He and the others that deferred will get to practice their throws with their guys on the same field they will "showcase" on. Really, imo, he could only hurt himself by doing his throws here. His accuracy will be closely scrutinized, why give something like that legs of any kind to become an issue again.

me niether..i couldn't remember exactly where he was at but yea he def not a tp 10 much less a top pick. half these so called experts say we will probly pick ryan at number one just cause we need a qb. they say we'll pick him number one yet they list him as the #2 pick?

i can agree on some of that cnc but what i don't understand is where this hype is coming from. are we telling people we are looking at him or something? it would seem to me to hype the number one saught after oick if that is what we have.

also you say the guys throwing at the combine will be throwing with their guys? i vaguely remember quinn not throwing at the combine and setting up personel workouts but didn't he do that at usc so he could throw with "his" recievers? i thought at the combine you threw to whoever was there an not just "your" recievers. please help my confusion!!

that isn't what I said... I said the opposite of that
 
They don't do this because there is no reason too if you are already as high as he is. All he could do is hurt himself. Plus it's not an accurate measurement of his success at the next level.
 
and dorsey isnt goin to work out either.
