What do you guys think about drafting Matt Ryan with the #1 overall pick?

I would def draft him with the first pick if we cant trade down (and stay within the top 10 picks). I mean John Beck didnt show us enough last year for us to just rely on him for next year and Matt Ryan is the kind of QB that could be a franchise QB. Every team that made it to the playoffs this year has a franchise QB and without one I dont see us climbing out of the whole we're in or being much better than .500.

I am not saying lets give up on Beck but he was not very impressive last year and if we're going to keep the #1 overall pick than we should draft Ryan, or at the very least Mcfadden. I just think Ryan has a much higher ceiling than Beck, meaning he has alot more potential and the probability of being a good to great NFL QB. Not to mention that Beck is turning 27.

What are your thoughts?

I dont like the Idea of Taking a QB with the First pick in the Draft i think there are alot of good QBs in the draft and i think that we could get Andre' Woodson in the 2nd or maybe the 3rd round(if he Falls) and we can get him to be a good QB if we have the Right Coachs to coach him Into an NFL starter i think there are much bigger needs then QB on our team i would much rather pick up Glenn Dorsey, or Chris long with the First overall pick

And how did all of those Qbs do in their first year? Any better than Beck? Favre wasnt even valued in Atlanta...

Draft forum

And hell no to drafting Ryan #1 overall

Oh man!! what the hell are you thinking. Matt Ryan?? What gives you the idea that he can be a franchise qb??? Because he played for Boston College lol? He has yet to take an NFL snap, He will be in the same position as beck 2 years from now. Give Beck some time. Just because he is 27 years old does not mean he is any different than a 22 year old rookie. He is on the same level as say a ELi Manning or a Brady Quinn As a rookie. Except he has more playing time than Brady, I bet if we had drafted Quinn, you all will be saying the same thing. what i am saying is that age doesnt matter. These posts are bull **** and pointless. Maybe you draft a Flacco in the second or third round, But i Guatantee that if We DO NOT trade out, then we do in deed take GFlenn Dorsey. Defense Wins Championchips. Just ask NY Giants!!!!

Dude. Did you see the team and coaching John Beck had around him? Oline: Gave him no time at all. Did you see him having a lot of time in the pocket in order to learn how go through all his correct reads and progressions? Receivers: How many drops did you see?...enough said, though there were some bright spots like T. Ginn towards the end. Defense: as a whole sucked, couldn't stop anyone and give him more opportunities. I could go on but too late, too tired....=)

I wouldn't take any of these QBs with the 1st pick. If we're going to garb another QB this year, IMO, let it be Flacco in the 2nd.

absolutely yes. even if beck succeeds, Ryan will be a huge upgrade over him. Never pass up a franchise QB to take a NT or OLB

What makes you think Matt Ryan is a franchise QB? I saw him play and he's not better then Andre Woodson. If the Dolphins take anyone it's likely Chad Henne, QB Michigan, in 2nd/3rd or they'll spend a low draft pick on Joe Flacco, QB Delaware.

The FO has let it be known they're committed to John Beck and helping him become a better QB. David Lee, QB coach, will help him tremendously in that regard. In addition to that, however, they will not (if they're prudent) allow the worrisome QB depth to go unaddressed. So I expect them to take QB but I won't take that as an omission that John Beck is a mistake.

If Beck succeeds, then how would Ryan be an upgrade then? For the sake of an argument, IMO, succeeding would be to achieve what he was drafted for and that was to be our future [franchise] QB. If Ryan is an upgrade, then that would mean Beck didn't succeed other than just making the roster. Besides, i wouldn't bet too much on Ryan anyway. He didn't exactly step up big in his bowl game.

What makes me think he's a franchise QB? I have seen about 8 of his games this year. He can make all of the throws, is big, has guts, has decent mobility. Everything you need to succeed at the next level. He blows Woodson away. Woodson's stock is dropping like a stone. He's no longer considered a first rounder anymore and may drop as far as 3rd round due to the hitch in his delivery

Actually, I agree with you that if they pass on Ryan, Henne and Flacco are the most likely candidates. Actually the Fronty Office has sent mixed signals regarding Beck. They have made it known at the Senior Bowl that drafting a QB is a priority. It seems what they want is a competition. I think David Lee was brought in to train the rookie QB more than Beck who I think has only one year to show what he can do.

I'm Certainly not writing Beck off but there are no more free rides for him

I dont think Beck will ever be a franchise QB though he could develop into an average one. Ryan's upside is that of a top ten QB IMO, like Eli, Rivers and Roethlisberger. At worst Ryan will be Matt Schaub.
