Hey guys, was wondering what everyone thought of Spaeth, the UM Gopher TE. He won the Mackey award for top tight end, and is a damn good player. I imagine he might go late first day, early second. I would love to see him as a Fin, he has an amazing ability and gives everything he has on every play.

What do you all think? Would he fit in with the fins?

I've watched a lot of his Gopher games over the past few years. He's a stud; a solid blocker and he's able to move well in space when he gets the ball. I'd love to have him on the Dolphins.....but then again I like anything that could get Randy McMichael off the team.

I like randy mcmichael, but if spaeth is better then get him, but mcmike has a lot of potential

That is what I thought, he has excellent hands, almost can be used like how NE and Indy uses their TEs, can get downfield and will take a hit to get the ball. Blocks well too, I think a definite upgrade over McM and less baggage too. He played with a broken bone this year so has toughness

here is a clip I found on him.

He's a stud blocker, but he's not fast, not nifty, and not particularly athletic.
I would be interested in taking UM TE Greg Olsen with our second round pick if he falls, but I couldn't see us taking Spaeth with anything earlier than a 3rd.

Also, didn't he have a major shoulder injury/surgery this year?

Good pick in the fourth round. There are a few TE's ahead of him.

He had surgery to repair a severely seperated shoulder.

I'm all for the phins picking up Spaeth or Herrian from Nebraska regardless of whether McMike is a phin in 07 or not.

Going w/ a 2 TE set IMO set provides more flexibility. It angers me somewhat that Parcells was smart enough to adapt but not that Hillbilly Napoleon

I think that Herrian could be an interesting 4th or 5th round guy. He had a rough couple of years there, but I guess he's pretty healthy now.

He had surgery to repair a severely seperated shoulder.

But the prognosis is really good, surgery was a success. He played injured for a lot of the season. He is the career leader in both receptions and yards by a TE at the U, he is ninth overall in TDs in UM history and was the second leading receiver in 2006.

He is 262lbs and 6'7", can catch and block. The one thing that Mason did in his tenure as HC at UM was develop good OL, TEs and RBs. He has pedigree and his predecessor is playing for the Colts and doing pretty good there. I think that he is a good mid round pick up and will allow us to get rid of RM.

I have seen him play. He would be a really good 4th round pick, but we have too many needs to draft him sooner than that.

He does seem a bit lumbering too. I think he only runs a 4.85.
