Turk nears end: At least for now, injured punter Matt Turk remains a part of the Dolphins' organization. It's just a matter of how long.

Had Turk reached an injury settlement by Wednesday's deadline, it would have remained possible that he could have returned to action after six weeks.

But now, even though he still technically can reach a settlement, it would mean he would be sidelined for an additional six weeks  causing him to remain out until the season's 13th week.

Since Turk's groin injury wasn't very serious to begin with, it has become clear the Dolphins have decided to go in a different direction. He likely will be waived.

If  or more likely when  that happens, Turk could potentially file a grievance against the team if he feels his injury was worsened by practicing after he incurred the injury.

In the meantime, Donnie Jones, a rookie who punted for coach Nick Saban at LSU, has taken over the role as the starting punter. He averaged 47.3 yards per punt Sunday against the Broncos.

Matt Turk was a good punter but looks like after his injury were not gonna keep him on the roster. Shame... But Donnie Jones did excellent so maybe we've found a punter

hmm i wonder if we save any cap by cutting turk?

I thought he was already cut  , i must have missed something.

i hate matt turk, ever since that pats game 2 years ago when he shanked like two in a row back deep in our territory.

No hes injured thats why hes not playing. His real ability is that he can punt the hell out of the ball but he wasnt really that accurate. So its a loss to say Turk is gone but not really

Me too. He doesn't have the leg he used to (just compare what his punts looked like to DOnnie's) It seemed like anytime we needed big punts in bad weather or into the wind late in the year, he'd hit a short one. Overall, he certainly wasn't terrible, but I won't miss him. I think Donnie is the better punter right now. ANd I don't want to sign anyone else. Give Donnie a chance. He's got a great leg and I think he'll be more consistent than we think.

If you are thinking of the "Meltdown in Foxborough" when we blew the division and the playoffs by blowing an 11 point lead in the final five minutes that was'nt Matt Turk...it was Mark Royals.

Royals has to be the worst punter in history. He could barely punt the ball over 35 yards!

I thought Turk was already cut too...i remember him going on IR, but i thought we reached an injury settlement with him and released him before the season started...

Turk wasn't that bad... some of you guys overreact (and mistook him for Royals). Turk was never that bad for us... then again it is good to find a rookie that is just as good and gets paid a heck of a lot less. Funny that the punter is from LSU though.... coincidence?

i always liked Matt Turk, i met him a couple years back and the night before a Dolphins/Chargers game, and he was a great guy, and then after i saw him lock horns with that Ravens player in that game a few years back when he was beating up one of our guys, i had a lot of respect for him as a punter. he wasnt afraid of contact, and thats a rare find.
