Tight end Matt Mulligan (UMaine) of Enfield (Maine) was offered a two-year deal with the Miami Dolphins,


I knew it and almost predicted it last night because parcells nephew plays at Maine and Brain Gain was a TE at Maine. I just had a feeling we'd look at the kid.

Wow, I didn't realize that these guys who don't get drafted actually get multi-year deals. I figure it has to be minimal cash involved but I thought it was common to give guys contracts that might last literally for days, weeks or months rather than years since they're guys who were available after round 7. Maybe they plan on keeping them around a while or the money's just so small that they can take the hit for multi-years? The Jags actually gave a guy a three year deal. ???

The contracts may be longer than you thought, but the guaranteed money is very VERY small if any. Remember the NFL is not like the NHL where contracts are fully guaranteed.

Nothing is guaranteed and theres probably a $20 signing bonus. The other thing is that Mulligan has only played football for 2 years, so maybe theres some untapped potential there. I see him as a developmental practice squad kid unless we need a long snapper.

Holy crap. Long and Gholston tie for 37 reps at the combine, and a TE gets 34? I'd sign him, too!
