Miami Dolphins wide receiver and pending free agent Rishard Matthews joined the Joe Rose Show on 560 WQAM to discuss the past season, issues with the former coaching staff and his future preferences.

“All I wanted was an opportunity; unfortunately it ended early with the injury. We all didn’t get where we wanted to as a team. Yeah I would love to come back to play for the Dolphins.”
“I agree, when coach Lazor was there, Tannehill didn’t have the flexibility he wanted. At times a lot of us were wondering why aren’t plays being audibled.”

Well good news Rishard just play for what we were paying Greg Jennings and you can come back, if you want more money its been nice knowing you

He would love to come back with a fat new contract, one that I doubt this team will give him.

Best wishes on your next endeavor, Rishard

Free agent Rishard Matthews says he's open to re-signing with the Dolphins, but that he doesn't want to be "looked at as anything less than a (No. 2 receiver)."
Matthews will be hitting the open market if he's intent on getting paid like a No. 2 receiver, but it's smart of him not to burn his Dolphins bridge in case things don't go according to plan in free agency.......

Bye

I would say at this point we are down to maybe Miller coming back (possibly) and that's it from the FA.

And the confirmations keep pouring in on Lazor's failed offensive system.

Quick question for those passing off Mathews b/c of his desired #2 role: For our offense in a base set of two WR's who do you see beating him out on the boundary?

Landry is a great player but his skills speak primarily to the slot. There's also Stills, who I have a lot of confidence to turn his game around under a new O system, but outside of him there isnt much depth or even competition for our #2 WR. Matthews has an excellent chance to be the #2 guy granted he didnt peak last year.

Ever hear of DeVante Parker?

**** Filbin. Because he had a bug up his ass about rookies first and then some preceived slight or transgression, he sat Matthews out. Considering his performance once finally allowed on the field and the obvious chemistry he developed quickly with Tannehill, one can't help but think that some of those dropped Wallace passes, poor routes, not fighting for the ball alone, let alone Hartline's 0YPA could have made a difference in '14 making us a 10-6 playoff team, despite our OL sacking Tannehill 18 times in the last 4 games. Years of wasted opportunity because Joe was an a-hole.

Ever hear of DeVante Parker?

Sounds familiar, was his father Elvis's manager?

I too would like to have Matthews back. We have nobody with his skill set if stills gets injured and he also has a good report with Tannahill.
1 Parker
2. Matthews/stills
Slot. Landry
Not a bad line up.
Hopefully for the right price

Get Mathews back and cut stills, use kennys money towards Mathews. Stills isn't a good fit for tannehill a guy like Mathews uses his body to box out the defender and was very solid. Devante is the stretch the field guy
