I just finished watching the tape of the Jags game and since it is 1:47 AM I am going to post my thoughts.

1. Maurice Mann stole the show with 3 outstanding catches. I am not sure if he will make the team or not but I've seen more out of him than I have out of Thompson and Gilmore so far. I know he is going against third stringers but he has a fourth stringer throwing to him so take that.

2. Sage looks really really poised in the pocket. The complete opposite of FeelEy. (Don't forget the third E you FeelEy haters.)

3. It looks like Berlin will have to be on the practice squad. He looks good but not good enough to beat out the poised one(Rosenfels). Also I am pretty sure that FeelEy won't be cut so everyone can quit posting that. (Don't count out a trade though, 4% chance)

4. Ricky is so patient. Every back on this team should watch Ricky wait for his blockers. It's a thing of beauty.

5. Very impressed with the NFL Networks coverage of the game. They showed the game from the Jags TV crew in the first half and the Fins TV crew in the second half. Very Classy.

6. Chambers has the best hands in the AFC East.... By FAR.

7. The O-Line protected the QB well throughout the night. I was very very happy to see our QB's get some time.

Impressed by:
Mann, Sage, Ricky, Chambers, and our numerous TE's with different numbers in the 40's (You know you have something to prove if your number is in the 40's, most cases at least.)

Disappointed with:
FeelEy, Gus, Gordon.

Thanks for reading the whole thing if you did.

I think Gilmore will make a good no.4 receiver, hopefully Frerotte will pick it up next week.

Thanks for the analysis Fitskin. It will be interesting to see who makes the team at WR. You have to think Welker will earn a spot due to his ST play, and apparantly hes been quite useful as a WR as well. Chambers is the only other sure thing to make the team IMO. Accordingly, as I see it, the following players would be vying for the final three spots:

1) Booker
2) Thompson
3) Boston
4) Gilmore
5) Mann
6) Davis

IMO, Booker's salary will come into play when determining if he makes the final roster. I think he and Thompson are fighting for the same spot due to their size and physical play. Booker has better hands, but Thompsons had a more noticeable camp. If Booker and Derrius are neck and neck I think the team would strongly consider cutting or trading Marty for cap reasons. Let me say this though: more than his talent, I think Booker will likely stick simply because hes a professional that works hard, and most coaches (Nick included) like those kind of players. I dont think Derrius will have any trade value if hes on the outside looking in.

With regards to the other receivers, Bostons been getting high praise and should make the team due to his upside. If he continues to impress, I think he will get a lot of playing time this year. Lets hope he has no setbacks. That would leave Davis, Mann and Gilmore all fighting for the last spot. Id give the edge to Gilmore simply because of his past playing experience. This team will have a lot of rookies and young players at other positions; I think there something to be said about having a fair amount of veterans on the roster as well - to create a semblence of balance in the locker room.

I would put Welker in one of the WR spots. I am really impressed with his hands. He really is mr. Reliable on both kick returning and recieving, mainly because he focuses on CATCHING the ball first and THEN yards.

You forgot Newson. The fact that he had a decent kick return raises his value, cause if we cut Minor we need a backup KR.

I actually listed Welker as a lock because his dual role as our ST ace. I think he and Chambers are the only two guys assured of a spot. JMO.

seriously.. what about Boston, and, especially, Booker??

EDIT: sorry, you've already explained your reasoning.

I can't see any of these guys not being a lock to make the team:

Chambers, Booker, Boston, Gilmore, and Welker...now if we carry 6 WR's I think man would be the next guy in. I honestly don't she Thompson making the final cuts. JMO...

How do you get 4%?

4%! How do you get that percentage? Just curious.

Mann looked excellent. We ought to keep some of these young receivers this year and let Thompson go.

We outta let Derrius Thompson go no matter who is behind him.....just because it would make me feel better about 2003.

I might be kinda late on this one
excuse me if i am but whatever happened
to sam simions

I'm sorry, but after seeing Mann late in the game making quality catches in crunch time while draped in coverage, I move him up above DT and possibly Booker. We just need guys who can catch, we haven't had that the last few years.

I find it hard to believe that our top five receivers are already assured of spots.
