DAVIE, Fla. -- Byron Maxwell has been the biggest flop in terms of offseason acquisitions for the Miami Dolphins. In five games, Maxwell has displayed inconsistent coverage, really poor tackling and was benched in Week 4 before returning to the starting lineup the following week.
In March, Miami swapped its No. 8 overall pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for their No. 13 pick, Maxwell and linebacker Kiko Alonso. The expectation was the Dolphins moved back in the draft and gained two quality starters.
While Alonso has done his part -- he’s third in the NFL with 50 tackles -- Maxwell is in one of the biggest slumps of his career. Still, Maxwell says it's a long season and he expects to bounce back and play up to expectations.
“I mean, you have to be confident in your ability and what you can do,” Maxwell said. “I’ve been a good player in this league for a long time. I know at the end of the day, everything I do has to come back to technique when you’re out there on the field.”
