Byron Maxwell talks with Fort Dorchester assistant coach Brent LaPrad during the 2015 Lowcountry Football
For the second straight year, Byron Maxwell is the new guy.
“Right now, it’s all about me and the other players putting the time in together and developing chemistry,” Maxwell said. “I’ve moved on so I have to roll with the punches. It was a good time in Philly. It was a new experience and I took some things away from it. It’s always good to have a new experience because it makes you stronger.”
“I’m the new guy in the locker room so everyone is looking at me wanting to know why they traded for me,” Maxwell said. “I feel like I have something to prove to myself and to my teammates but it goes back to getting that chemistry. I think if we can all come together we can make things happen.”
A former Clemson standout who graduated with a degree in sociology, Maxwell was drafted by the Seahawks in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft. It took the cornerback a while to find his niche in the talented Seahawks’ secondary but by the 2013 season Maxwell was a bona fide member of the Seahawks’ Legion of Boom.
That year he played in 16 games and became a starter. The following year he started all but one game.
In his final two seasons with Seattle, Maxwell totaled 64 tackles, including 55 unassisted, six interceptions and 23 passes defensed. He also added 23 tackles and an interception in postseason play.
Maxwell has made 146 tackles in his pro career, including 121 unassisted. He had 37 pass breakups, eight interceptions and forced five fumbles.
