Hey guys I have been hearing a lot about this date now for awhile and I was wondering what exactly are you guys expecting? The three "top" free agents are Foster,Hall,Jones and Culliver if you want to put him in there as well. Is there anyone I'm missing that the Fins might sign? Who do you think they will sign? Thanks in advance

Culliver can be signed now since he was cut. So can Foster.

I would imagine we will sign Jason Jones quickly since we have been in contact with him and had two visits. He would be a great early down DE. I'm not sure Foster will be signing with anyone until he can prove he is healthy.

This new front office has thrown a few monkey wrenches into this pre-season and made things pretty confusing to predict. Not your normal go after the highly popular and expensive FA out there but rather getting the players that fit the team that they are trying to build. The longer time goes on the more we are seeing the puzzle being completed. Only time will tell if it was the right path or not.
But I think DE Jason Jones is the most predictable to be acquired on the 12th...but you never know

I'm expecting us to sign Jason Jones as well. I sense that the basics of a deal were set and they are waiting for May 12th to announce it.

Jason Jones and, hopefully, Leon Hall. I know the deal with Arian Foster was that he wasn't signing with someone until later, so maybe May 12th is later? Worth keeping an eye on.

Just in case anyone has questions as to why the date is important.

The compensatory draft pick model is used to soften the blow for teams that lose players in free agency. For example, the Detroit Lions are likely to get a third-round pick for losing Ndamukong Suh to the Miami Dolphins. Compensatory picks can range from third to seventh rounders and are not tradable.

Free agent signings prior to May 12 are formulated and deducted from the compensatory formula -- i.e. had the Lions signed another highly paid player to replace Suh they would have lost that pick.

The Baltimore Ravens under Ozzie Newsome are famous for hoarding compensatory picks to keep their team well stocked with talent. Many teams will wait until after the deadline before bringing in a veteran who may not even make their eventual 53-man roster.

Prior to 2015, the key date had been June 1, but the NFL moved up the timeline to allow veterans a better opportunity to work out with new teammates during the offseason.

It could be our 1st opportunity to sign a player that we actually covet. Up until now we've only signed players other teams didn't want in an attempt to recoup comp picks. So I'm actually curious to see what happens

so with Jason Jones most likely signing, does he start over Andre Branch until Wake is fully healthy?

The more I see this journeymen rotation of DE's, the more I wish that Jordan shows up and plays to his potential. That would be production that could mean a lot, esp to young corners. It also would be production we were not expecting. I know it's hard to depend on, but with some recent luck received via draft, let's hope for the best
