May 22nd OTA updates

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyDavid Garrard is taking snaps first from Mike Pouncey.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyWill Barker, who the Dolphins pouched last year, is working as a left tackle. He's spent all his career on the right side.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyI think you're going to love Paul Soliai and Randy Starks working together regularly.

I never understood how you give chris clemons a whole season at starter, he does nothing wrong, and all the sudden he's replaced. good to see him back in the starter role.

Right? He was fine for a 2nd year player, then his development just gets destroyed to have Jones start which was a mistake

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyOffensive lineman Dustin Waldron was also absent today.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Reshad Jones blew up Charles Clay during 11-on-11. Got a slap on the wrist, but good play.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Sean Smith came down with another OTA interception. Second one I've seen.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Lamar Miller was the top standout during this OTA session. The rookie tailback creates separation.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"It's coming along nicely. It's definitely a different tempo than I'm used to. It's a 2 minute drill all game," Phins QB David Garrard said.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"A lot of times he's giving us tips on things," David Garrard on Ryan Tannehill's understanding of the Dolphins' offense.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"Rookies usually have a big question mark on their face, stary eyes. He doesn't," David Garrard said of Ryan Tannehill.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"We're moving quickly in this offense...We're stressing details right now and we're getting a lot of information," Matt Moore said.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"All I can do is come out here & work my tail off and get better, but the best guy is going to play," Matt Moore said of the QB competition.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"This is definitely a different level. It's the NFL for a reason...it's faster. Guys are faster. It happens faster," Ryan Tannehill said.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly"I've played everything but center. I can't get used to a man putting his hands up under me," said Dolphins OT Artis Hicks.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Reggie Bush returned to practice on a limited basis, and I'm told Vontae Davis was sprinkled in on some reps.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
I've consulted with the jury, and we're giving today's OTA session to David Garrard. Decision making is quick. Tannehill is slow.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Charles Clay either made great catches on drag routes or he put himself in position to get blown up. Enticing but scary.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill throw one great pass during practice. It was a well timed slant. Guess who the receiver was? Jeff Fuller.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Roberto Wallace made one big catch from Matt Moore, who bought time rolling to his left.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
RT @Daniel_Malone: Slow physically or slow making decisions?»Tannehill was slow making decisions, threw some questionable balls. NFL is fast

Izzy Gould@IzzyGould
Ryan Tannehill said Richie Incognito gave him the low down on life for the rookies in the NFL. No details though.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"I thought the execution was really good for the vast majority of practice. The last session it got sloppy," Joe Philbin said.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"I think they've got a pretty good handle on things....You hope there's a good bit of carry over and retention," Joe Philbin said.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly"I want to start building some chemistry. Want to expose the guy to a lot of information. And I want to see leaders emerge," Philbin said.

Izzy Gould@IzzyGould
Joe Philbin declined to say why Vontae Davis did not practice today.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly"They've got some natural snap, pop in their body. Some quick twitch," Joe Philbin on the UM players.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly"He's a guy that can catch the football, move him around," Joe Philbin said of Lamar Miller's playmaking ability.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"Determination is just as important as the X's and Os," Joe Philbin said. "Hopefully the scheme will take advantage of what our guys can do"

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly"I told him we want to have a competitive situation (at QB)," Joe Philbin said. "We got a long way to go. We'll see how it shakes out."

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said David Garrard has a strong arm, moves well and "I like the way he looks."

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly"John Denney is our player rep. I have to clear everything through John, so I'm very nice to John," Joe Philbin said.

Looks like that's it. The next two days of OTAs are closed to the media and public. Next OTAs start on the 29th and are open to the media but closed to the public so that will be the next time we'll get some updates.

I'd much rather the media tell us who is working where on the Dolphins' NICKEL packages than I am the base 4-3 package, which was highly predictable.

Ooooh, Jared Odrick is working at LEFT END in the base package? Never saw THAT one coming. Wow, Kevin Burnett is playing WILL backer? Reeeally? Sooo interesting.

I mean, come on. We knew what this base 4-3 was going to look like even before the Draft, depending on who they drafted. The only changes would have come if they'd taken a starting D-End type or a true Mike. That didn't happen, so that made Odrick-Starks-Soliai-Wake, Misi-Dansby-Burnett a virtual certainty.

What I want to know on the nickel/dime work is whether they're just going with the standard look of Vernon-Odrick-Starks-Wake, with Burnett-Dansby and Richard Marshall as the NCB, or if they're tinkering around with different nickel/dime packages, which is what I would do. I would consider having Vernon rush over a guard instead of a tackle. His athletic ability would be more use there. I would also consider tinkering around with the back end to see if I couldn't get Richard Marshall into more of a safety type role.

Exactly! The beat reports are just horse ****. I also want to know what the new offense looked like. Did we go with more 3 and 4 WR sets ala GB and A & M? Which WR's played which positions? Were we putting more receivers/TE's/RB's in motion. There is not one single report of the scheme for an offensive play. All that's there is so and so made a couple nice catches, big whoop tee do. I know it's one of the first OTA's but these beat writers need to spend less time stroking each other's ****s in the stands and start doing their jobs. I always wonder how the hell these guys can keep their jobs while doing so little of what they should be doing.

CK, with all the writing you do with Dave Hyde why don't you have a press pass? That is a breakdown of an OTA I would love to read.

Are the media/beat writers told beforehand not to leak specifics like the ones you are asking for? If that's the case, that could be the reason.
