Maybe Vernon Carey will move to LT

Last year I saw Vernon Carey a couple of times playing LT and holding his own against Taylor in practice...

Maybe if Alabi is not ready yet, Carey may move back to LT where coach Houck was giving him some practice...He has very long arms and good size to be a good LT, I'm not sure if he lacks speed but he could be a decent LT in my opinion.

What do you think?
 
Carey needs to play a key role in next year's OL at one position or another. That still leaves Miami 3 bodies short if they cut James or 2 bodies short if they don't cut him.
 
The LT position will come down to Alabi, Carey, and possibly Justice (if he's there at 16). Cutting DMac makes me a bit nervous, but I'm sure Houck and Saban wouldn't have gotten rid of him if they didn't have a plan.
 
Winston Justice would be my first choice to play LT, even if it means spending our first rounder on him. Richard Marshall and DeMario Minter can be taken in the 2nd to fill or CB needs.
 
I have been saying Carey will be our LT for a long time...

Winston Justice is a right tackle...and the best one in the draft. You don't make a tackle change positions in his rookie year...that would be a disaster.

My guess is Carey and Alabi compete for the left tackle spot in camp and we either sign a vet to play right tackle or draft Justice.
 
Justice was a right tackle for a lefty QB. It'd make sense that he could play LT. He's got the build and athleticism to play the left side, especially w/Houck's tuteledge. I think he'd be a nice fit.
 
if there is not CBA signed, we don't draft Justice, and Alabi isn't ready then I think it is a given, but any one of those factors could prevent it.

Although I would feel good about Carey moving to LT, at least we get more value out of him at that position.
 
I think that we'll go defence in the 1st round but we'll take a LT later on...the 2 guys I like in the 2nd or 3rd round are Wisnton and Colledge....both have the feet to play the left side....is not easy to start there as a rookie but I don't think Carey will start at LT....why make 2 spots weaker?

exactly. I thought Wade Smith could have been good for us if his confidence wasnt shattered. It is rough to play any rookie at LT. Even if you do you have to give them help. Something Wanny never thought to do.

I think Carey will end up getting LT seeing as how he is the most athletic of the group and he has more starting experience than Alabi.

I dont think starting Carey at LT would make the position weaker... I think it would make it stronger... :finnasty:
