McKinnie suggests change of rhythm and cadence

If you want to blame the coaches for something, blame them for not moving Pouncey to guard, especially after we got rid of Incognito's dumbass.

What kills me is that Pouncey originally played guard (his brother was the center) and if you watched his shotgun snaps this past week, that's another damn good reason to consider moving him.

And by the way, when the Martin/Incognito thing originally went down, the staff did toy with putting Pouncey at guard during the bye week. Why they elected not to do that, I'll never know, but I think it's killing us.

To be fair, neither Jim Turner nor Joe Philbin have coached 'their entire lives' at the 'highest level' of football. Zac Taylor certainly hasn't.

Personally, I believe that the snap count is done the way it is to cut down on false starts -- in fact I believe that is the reason we have so few false starts.

I don't think it's a case of incompetence. I think it's a case of ignorance. It won't be the first thing with this staff that struck me as a beginner's mistake.

I said highest level(s). I was speaking of division 1 college and NFL. I consider anyone coaching at those levels to be experts. But, that is neither here nor there.

After reading your post I quoted, which I hadnt before the other post I made, I think you are totally on to something................ The simplified snap count does aide in preventing false starts. Therefore McKinnie isnt even correct and everyone is getting bent out of shape over nothing and blaming the coaching staff for it.

The problem as your evidence suggests is that Pouncey tips off the snap. So the issue people should have with the staff is they havent moved him to LG where he belongs. Actually, he belongs off of this team and hopefully that will be taken care of in the offseason. We can thank Ireland for spending a first round pick on Pouncey's dumbass.

I've said it for years. Pouncey was waaaay better at guard at UF when his brother was the center. They moved him to center for his senior year and for the first half of that season it was laughable. Guard is his natural position. Moving him back there makes perfect sense.

Really? Okay, let me blow your mind:

In 14 games against other teams this season, San Diego's defense was penalized 2 times for being offside, and 2 times for a neutral zone infraction. This includes declined penalties.

In 1 game this season against the Miami Dolphins, San Diego's defense was penalized 4 times for being offside and one time for a neutral zone infraction.

Was that a fluke? Consider this:

In 13 games with Mike Pouncey starting at center for the Dolphins, the Dolphins offense forced 4 offside penalties and 0 neutral zone infractions.

In 2 games with Nate Garner starting at center for the Dolphins, the Dolphins offense forced 6 offside penalties and 1 neutral zone infraction.

Go ahead, tell me I'm imagining this. Fact is, our coaches can't figure it out.

I've been preaching for a long time that we need to change up our cadence so I have zero issues there. But trying to blame that on Pouncey is a bit of a reach and then using one of the worst D Lines in the league as an example to somehow show an improvement with him out of the lineup is weak.

I thought that was why we drafted him for sure. My anger at the pick didn't reach it's peak until I found out they were playing him at center.

ONCE AGAIN FOLKS, I TOLD YOU SO. This Coaching staff stinks. Philbin MAY BE a better Head Coach than Sparano but Sparano certainly had better assistants. Look at this Defense. Look at this Offensive Line play. The QB play and the play of the CBs are the two parts of this offense that has improved since 2010. They all need to go.

It's hilarious that someone "disliked" my first post in this thread. There is no question whatsoever that Miami cues the defense with the cadence. It has happened all season long. Good for McKinnie to take this to the coaching staff and bring it up. The guy has been around long enough to know. It puts our offensive line and the offense as a whole at a disadvantage. Especially with a team like the Bills who is tough enough to block as it is. This late into the season, for anyone to STILL suggest that this isn't an issue has likely never played football or is completely clueless for whatever reason. It is a problem that needs to be addressed. It could save our QB from sustaining a serious injury that would hamper his career and it COULD help our running game. WHY? Because the opposing defense doesn't get a step in the right direction before our play even starts. It's really simple.

McKinnie was promptly cut for publicly having an opinion. No wonder his option got thrown out. Pretty Obvious Ireland don't like no uppity you-know-whats having opinions, or, at least Philbin hates veterans, as far as we know.

Don't you think this coaching staff deserves any credit? Not even for the way it handled the Martin situation?

.

Good for Philbin and Co. for handling a difficult situation. But this is simple football fundamentals that they are failing at. I do not know who to point a finger at, but our cadence/snap count has been an issue for this team. Our o-line is not good by any means. But we are not helping them by queuing the opposing defenses to what we are running.

And this great post tells me that it is probably Mike Pouncey who is too ****ing stupid to handle a more complex snap count.

This tells me that the smart thing to do would be to move Pouncey to guard, then get rid of his worthless ass in the offseason. FREE POUNCEY.

If you want to blame the coaches for something, blame them for not moving Pouncey to guard, especially after we got rid of Incognito's dumbass.

I think you're dead on with this.

I listened to the last two games on Sirius, and you certainly could call whether the play was a run or a pass based on the Go, Go Go which you could hear easily. It was 100 percent. I would think tipping off the defense like this eliminates any uncertainty in the defense's mind, rendering any play action useless. Once they hear this, there is no guessing on their part. This just seems stupid.

Just to play the other side...how do we have 8 wins if the snap count is known by all? My guess is they've made some adjustments at times otherwise they'd lose every game 19-0. Not saying the coaching staff is wonderful but just to assume they haven't done or tried to do anything I think is hard to believe (again they have 8 wins).

Its nice to see some people get it, and if we had Peyton Manning I guarantee we would not be using a simple go/go-go.

As for the San Diego game the Pouncey tell thing is plausible but I have another theory: There was a thread after the game titled something like "See? We finally mixed up the snap count and we got them offside" I think they might have their cause and effect backwards, we mixed up the snap count because we noticed they were cheating. Thats what most fail to understand, it doesn't have to be a static thing, if we notice a defense trying to cheat the snap count we can change it on the next series or even the next play and catch them. Thats why you don't see coaches like Belichick trying to take advantage, he knows if we're smart we'll counter and gain an even bigger advantage. Maybe Pouncey has a tell, maybe San Diego's line just had a bad day or maybe McKoy is an idiot and fell into our very clever trap, but the theory that Philbin doesn't realize go-go's are always runs or the potential consequences if he does is mind-numbing to me.

I do think the coaching staff has some culpability in the high number of sacks but you're barking up the wrong tree with the go/go-go thing.
