yeah, in retrospect we kind of needed Surtain more than that draft pick, regardless of the cap implications.

our secondary is in shambles all of a sudden just because of that.

Actually you are right in theory but VERY wrong in reality.

First off their is no "regardless of cap implications".
The cap is there and you NEED to pay attention to it like it or not.

Secondly,
The reality is we lose Surtain anyway after this year.
In today's NFL you can't just let players walk via FA when you can get picks in return to build your team. It IS a necessity in today's NFL with the salary cap to trade some high profile players away before you lose them for nothing.

Thirdly, the secondary is in shambles because Poole, the CB they were confident could replace Surtain, got injured.
It happens and those things can't be controlled.

He has been that way ever since he's been here. That in itself demonstrates a problem with FOCUS - he concentrates on the catches that seem unretrievable and doesn't on the ones that hit him in his frickin' hands. That McMike.

Problem is, most throws are the "catchable" kind...
