Remember the article that was being passed around here during the preseason that guaranteed Joey would beat out Daunte by week 6?

We all laughed at that and said impossible, but strangely enough, it happened.

All this time we sort of crap on the media and whatever they think. I just thought it was interesting how many people said it was bull and how quickly it happened.

You have no proof only conjecture Harrington beat out Culpepper. There is some evidence that the opposite is true. One, Culpepper looks like crap when trying to avoid the rush (which ALL Harrington supporters/Cpep haters point out). And number two, if/when Cpep gains his mobility and is plugged back in, well Harrington never beat anyone out.

Could either have beat him out or he really isnt 100%.

This year hasnt been fair to Daunte in being that he isnt fully recovered from his surgery.

I say if he stinks next year, he's done.

Harrington beat out Culpepper because Harrington is playing. Culpepper may be "injured" still, but its his poor performance that got him pulled. Whether that performance is based on an injury or his current talent level, we don't know. But because Saban pulled Pep and put in Harrington, Joey "beat out" Peps and is now the starter.

I don't think Daunte would have been so ticked off if he was legitimately too hurt to play and wasn't beat out.

That is true...CPep didn't go to Saban and tell him, "pull me, I'm injured." He got pulled for performance.

It was NEVER an open competition. Culpepper was our starter from the begining.

There was so much positive energy about him being so far ahead in terms of his recovery that maybe a lot of things were overlooked.

Harrington may still improve as a QB, Culpepper is just trying to regain his previous form. He isn't going to read defenses any better than he does now. He needs to be able to run around in order to make plays. It will be interesting how the rest of the season plays out.

I don't like the way he has responded to pressure in games, and I don't like the way he has responded to the pressure of being benched.

I just hope the locker room doesn't get divided. You just know that Chambers is pulling more for Pepper than just for a good starting QB....

See I think that determines whether Joey "beat out" Daunte or not. If his performance is tied to injury then Joey didn't beat out anyone, he's just filling in until Cpep heals. If Joey "beat out" Daunte and he was pulled based on talent level, then we shouldn't see Daunte take a snap again even if healed right? Since his talent level is below Joey's, why would Daunte get another start?

Performance tied to injury and performance tied to talent is totally different. One leads to someone "beating out" and one leads to someone "filling in." According to Saban it's the latter. Only time will tell which one it is.

thank you who did harrington beat out, culpepper was sat do to injury, if both are heathly c-pep would win out every time, i don't know where you fans get the idea that joey is not that qb dam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey hasta who told you that? because no one else from the oorganization is saying that c-pepe lost his spot due to performance , oh i get you are assuming just like everyone else

What make you think Chambers is pulling for Pepper? Wasn't Chambers the one throwing a tantrum on the sidelines during the Texans game because Pepp couldn't get him the ball. They might've been good buddies before the season began but at the end of the day every good receiver wants a QB that can consistently get him the ball.... And right not that ain't C-Pepp!!!

Good, maybe that crap SI posted about us making the Super Bowl will come true too!!!!

I remember that article it was written by Jason Witlock, just another reason to dislike someone who I already disliked.

That tantrum was about the plays being called, he would NEVER do that to Pepp...

I read the article that is being referenced in this thread and the term, "Harrington will beat him out", was never mentioned. What was said is that Culpepper would be benched in favor of Harrington mostly becuase they say Culpepper can't read defenses really well. One of my biggest pet peeves about finheaven is when a reporter does write a negative story about the fins there is a thread started where about 40 to 50 posters call that reporter an idiot for stating his opinion (just see my sig). When that reporter turns out to be right you usually don't see the, "(insert reporters name) Was right we are all idiots", thread afterwards. Pete Prisco in 2002 was my personal favorite. He said the Jets would win the AFC East and stuck with it. There was a Prisco thread every week about how much of an idiot he was but there was no, "Prisco Was Right", thread when the Jets won the division.

Anyway in this case that reporter was half right. Culpepper is being replaced by Harrington becuase he's not 100% and is not a good enough QB to sit in the pocket, read defenses and make the right throw. He needs his legs for his playmaking ability to really come to life. He also needs to have the confidence to plant on the leg to deliver the football the way we all know he can. If Culpepper was 100% healthy and this happened I'd say that reporter was 100% correct, but since he isn't he's half right. The jury is still out as to what happens next.
