Kiper, the longtime NFL Draft guru, has offensive tackle Ereck Flowers going 16th to Houston, linebacker Denzel Perryman 28th to Denver, and receiver Phillip Dorsett 31st to Seattle in his latest mock draft.
We all should know by now that mock drafts should be taken with a crate of salt. Still, it isn’t enough to halt our intrigue leading up to the draft as mock drafts flood the internet with fury. There’s a reason all the top sports sites pour out version after version months away from actual draft day. People read them. While the first two wouldn’t be surprising, Dorsett would be. Kiper attributes part of his rise because he “shined in Mobile at the Senior Bowl… a player who can consistently create space with quickness in the passing game… Dorsett is a Porsche in terms of acceleration and the ability to start fast and stop quickly.”
He’s also expected to light up the NFL Combine with a Cheetah-like 40 time. He reportedly ran a 4.21 last summer, the fast mark in Hurricanes history, a time that would break Chris Johnson’s combine record of 4.24 .
Again, it’s just a mock draft, but Miami would lead the nation in first-rounders in this projection, with no other team having more than two. This includes Alabama and Florida State, both with two apiece. Whether all three go in the first round or not, and with other exceptional players on the board like Clive Walford and Duke Johnson, it’s clear last year’s roster had a ton of talent.
Would Miami having three first-round picks give Al Golden another recruiting weapon or further drive down his teetering value after winning just six games despite a roster booming with elite NFL talent

Happy for the guys but this suks from a Dolphin's point of view. Was hoping to get a shot at Dorsett later on in the draft.

Mel will probably change it many times before the draft but i was surprised Dorsett and Perryman where that high.
i was thinking early / mid 2nd for Perryman and late 2nd or early third for Dorsett.

Flowers yes, Perryman maybe, Dorsett no. But what are we doing? Talking about Mel Kiper, which is exactly what he wants.

Kiper always boosts up those speed demons anyways... and you will hear him state "big play maker" constently.

I cant see Dorsett going in the first with all those other talented WRs ahead of him, as well as teams not really going for WR often early in the drafts.... but Seattle would be a good place for him to be drafter, since they need that down field type of player.

Perryman on the other hand I can see going into the first... there are only 3 ILB really worthy in the draft... could a team go on Perryman in the first yes... could he drop into the 2nd due to other ILBs going ahead of him... yes.

Kipers 1st rnd is a popularity contest, but with that said, Mayoch put Dorsett in his 1st rnd also during the senior bowl.

i agree with flowers but not the other 2

Agree.

Perryman will probably go mid-2nd to mid-3rd. Dorsett I had as a 4th rounder before the senior bowl...crazy how he's blowing up right now. It's kind of like the Stephen Hill effect from a few years ago when he blew up after running a fast 40 time at the combine and went in the 2nd round...although Dorsett is a much better WR than Hill was/is. Mayock has Dorsett going in the 2nd round.

No way Perryman gets out of round two.

I sometimes wonder if an agent slips either money or a little inside info to some of the so called draft experts in exchange for a higher rating and free publicity for their client? Think about it if you thought your client was a third round pick but you could get Kiper to tout him as a first round pick maybe you could get some team to take him either early or midway through the second round. That would earn the player and agent a great deal of money. Slipping Kiper $25,000 or $50,000 would be worth it and a drop in the bucket compared to what it would be worth.

intheresting thought... i wouldnt doubt to that happening

What draft grade do you guy have on the TE Walford ? I'm thinking second round. Only 6'4" but with decent speed and exceptional in the middle of the field running seem routes. I actually thought he's go before Dorsett.

note: The only college players I know anything about are the Miami guys. I am not pushing for us to draft them but more just curious were they will go.

Thanks. Do you think Duke Johnson has a chance to go in the second as well or later on ?
I think Beard had him late 3rd or early 4th with several other backs going before him.
i know he'll go after Gurley and Gordan but maybe he'll be the third one taken.
That kid is a highlight waiting to happen.

Plus screw Al Golden for having so much talent and finishing with a losing record.

Walford I can see going in the 2nd round.... not tons of TEs that are really worthy like him in my opinion.

Thrtr is just a plethora of WRs this year, and teams will have needs for them... but with the depth at the position I can see many falling farther than expected, especially with teams less likely to stab at WRs earlier in rounds. Or... what sometimes can happen is a few teams kick off a trend of WRs, everyone else spaz out, and you see them all start flying off the boards.

for the RBs I can see guys like Gurley, Gordon, and Tevin Coleman going in rounds 1-2 (maybe Ajayi later round 2)... but the rest of the core RBs I believe are entering 3rd round for their picks... Duke Johnson would be in that big group of talented RBs I think are rounds 3-4.

problem is this is not in February... where you havent seen team cuts, teams FA signings, teams needs going into the draft, etc... so its hard to really place it right now

I'd be surprised if it wasn't offered before, just don't know if it would be accepted by a Kiper or a Mayock. Those guys have a sweet thing going and it'd be a lot to risk.

I'm sure scouts blow smoke up guys like Kiper also, to hype up players they don't want so that the guy they do will slip a little. A small handful of guys essentially control the shape of the draft all the way up to the Thursday - there's a lot of incentive to try to influence those guys any way that works to your advantage.
