I've made no bones about how I feel about Kiper, but he brings up and interesting point here, I got this from Phinfever.

Dolphins will get great value with 32nd overall pick
by Mel Kiper

Question: The New England Patriots forfeited their first round draft choice (No. 31 overall). So the Miami Dolphins will pick two of the first 32 players -- No. 1 overall and the first pick in the second round. If the Dolphins draft Matt Ryan first overall, do they automatically look to a defensive lineman with the first pick in the second round?

Kiper: First, let's look at the first pick of the second round since 2001:

2007: DT Alan Branch, Arizona Cardinals
2006: LB DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans
2005: G/C David Baas, San Francisco 49ers
2004: LB Karlos Dansby, Arizona Cardinals
2003: OG Eric Steinbach, Cincinnati Bengals
2002: WR Jabar Gaffney, Houston Texans
2001: QB Drew Brees, San Diego Chargers

There will be first-round talent left on the board, perhaps USC linebacker Keith Rivers, when it's time for the Dolphins to use their second-round pick (32nd overall).
Each team has a draft board with its list of top players. In the second round -- especially with the 32nd overall pick -- the Dolphins should be able to get a player who they think has a first-round grade. Is Miami going to get one of the top defensive linemen? Probably not, but the Dolphins have a lot of need areas and they can select a very good cornerback, linebacker (Keith Rivers, Dan Connor) or offensive lineman (Chilo Rachal) with the first pick in the second round.

kiper's a joke... how correct was he "last" year ?

Some here love him, I can't figure out why, but they do. I think he takes things personally if teams don't draft players according to where he thinks they should go. Nevertheless Mel makes a good point in the article above. I like having the first and last picks in the first round.

Stop bashing Kiper.
He knows more about every player in football than any person alive.
He may not be correct in saying what player is picked by what team, but his knowledge is the best.
He certainly knows more the the previous Dolphins management.
While you may not like his personality his research and knowledge is unsurpassed.

Ummm, everyones entitled to their own opinion here.

I think thats a great point, teams like Buffalo love to trade up into the late first round early second round, and they do it every year. Also since this class is so deep there is a very good chance that someone with mid-first round talent falls into the second round. Maybe Dan Connor, one of the top OTs, or a cornerback.

that is a hysterical statement...are y'all related ?

I have a good feeling about a very good player falling to us there at 32. If someone drafts someone unexpected (like we did last year) it can make the dominoes fall differently and we could end up landing a good young player.

How does Kiper saying that we will get good value with the 32nd pick overall [first round talent] is a joke and what makes him incorrect about that? Are you saying you don't believe we will get good value with the 32nd pick overall?

Keith Rivers still around at #32? Is Kiper kidding? He may know more about players' backgrounds or interesting stories, but I believe Todd McShay is far better at projecting where players will be drafted. I don't see how Rivers makes it past the Cincinnati, New Orleans, Buffalo and falls to 32.

I totally agree. No way Rivers makes it to 32. Linebackers are getting drafted higher and higher, and unless he has a horrible combine, is top 20 to say the least.

rivers will be the 1st lb off the board. hes easily the best lb in the draft probally gonna be a top 20 pick

Everyone needs to not get hyped on what Kiper or any other "analyst" says. Parcells made it perfectly clear at his PC that he is not drafting based on mocks or what experts say. Parcells knows what hes doing and we can all expect a great draft this year.
