On Dolphin needs:
"Their needs are DT, OL, CB, WR, and OLB. They could even use a DE. In order, DT, OL, CB, WR, OLB, DE, RB."

On which positions have most talent now juniors have declared:
"The QBs are not bad, but only one high potential pick in Matt Ryan."

On Glen Dorsey:
"He's a tremendous young man. Great character. He has the fever for football. He elevates the play around him by being on the field. He's a destructive DT when he's at full strength and worthy of being the No. 1 pick."

On other possible No1 picks:
"If there's one player that Parcells is going to have a real high opinion of, it's Chris Long from Virginia"

Whatever you think of the guy (I think he's pretty good) if he had been our GM we would not have been in this much of a mess. To Mr Ireland- just find me a Hall of famer- I don't care what position he is!

Great to have you back Finheaven!

2.CB Dwight Lowery SJST...

the same as our 3 biggest needs according to MEL. i also had a WR in the third but i cant remember his name

I could not agree more with this part. Our current roster gives us the dubious luxury of being able to take the best player with every pick regardless of position--and without remorse. If we draft great players, we will be better in 2008, and then we can start talking about "team needs" in 2009. Every time we zero in on a specific position, we let a pro bowler slip through our fingers and onto the roster of an opponent.

i like dorsey i would be pleased with him id love mcfadden but that isnt happening

Anybody see the stats on Haynesworth with the Titans this year?

3 games without him - defense allowed 32 points per game.
13 games with him - defense allowed 16 points per game.

If I were GM, I'm taking Haynesworth... and trading down. If Haynesworth is unavailable... I'm still trading down and skipping Dorsey. My 3 choices for the first round are: DE Chris Long, Nosetackle from Texas who is 6'5" (this was Mel Kipers suggestion a couple weeks ago), Unknown CB.

I won't be upset if we draft Dorsey #1 overall, perhaps he turns into a young Warren Sapp (same height)... but if we can pick up another #2, I'd do it. We've lost too many #2 picks on guys that aren't here anymore, we have to try to get another one. If Dorsey turns out to be a young Warren Sapp, then he's worth the #1 pick. Note: Sapp is a 4-3 lineman, not a 3-4.

In order of preference, I'd like to see the Phins:

1-Trade down, gain additional first day pick...

2-Draft Chris Long...

3-Draft Glenn Dorsey...

Haynesworth is about as close as you can come to a non-Parcells guy. He was a problem player in college. He's been a problem player in the pros. The stuff you see on ESPN is only the half of it. Also, when you consider Parcells got a great look at Haynesworth when he was stomping his cleats into a Cowboys head, I seriously doubt (and hope) that we show no interest. The guy is playing well because it is a contract year. That is it. He's an above average player. No doubt. But I bet he does not dominate the league the way he has this year ever again. He is looking for a big payday.

The NT from Texas, Frank Okam, is definitely not worth a first round pick. In fact, I am wondering whether he is a true NT at all. At 6'5", he is a bit tall for the position, and the only significant criticism of him at the East/West practice was that he has a tendency to get too high. With his height, that is a problem he is going to have to fix if he is going to play NT at the next level.

I think Dorsey can play a combination of NT and DE for us.

Barry Richardson has dropped to 5th round consideration on some web sites...draftscout has him as a 6th round pick now.

I've never been a big fan of taking defensive lineman early, especially DT but here is my breakdown of our #1 pick.

First off I'll state my problem with taking a DT so early: It seems like there is ALWAYS some hard nosed space eater available in free agency for a fraction of the price. Of course he may not be as talented as a guy like Sapp or Dorsey, but at the end of the day he gets the job done. If I'm going to take a guy like Dorsey he needs to be able to play EVERYWHERE on the defensive line. That means in the 3-4 he needs to be able to play DE or DT, and in the 4-3 he needs to be able to play the DT position as well. Of course I dont expect him to be a 4-3 DE but I expect him to be athletic as one.

Okay so now for what I think we should do.

Contrary to what I just said, I think Dorsey is the safe pick. The guy is a monster, sometimes people seem not to realize that even by not making the play a big man can make the play. Huh? Well what I mean is that even if he come nowhere near the QB or RB but occupies two blockers he has already changed the complexion of the game. With guys like JT and Porter one less blocker can mean a feast on defense.

Alternatively I'd like us to explore the QB position. Yes we drafted John Beck last season, and no we havent seen enough to judge. However that doesnt mean we should stop looking. There is no evidence Beck is a bust, but none that he is good either. If our staff sees franchise ability in a player there is no reason not to snag him.

Anyway I could have wrote pages on this, so many pent up thoughts with FH being down so long, but I'll spare you guys.

Oh is that all? And we also will need players to back up those positions as well.

Even if we end up with 8 picks, we will not be able to fill all of Kiper's stated needs for us in one draft.

DT, OLB, "sure" we can find some players to fill those holes, Dorsey, Groves or Harvey, Pat Sims, Frank Okam.

DE..I would expect whichever OLB we draft can also play down at DE, but then again, maybe we could squeeze Moses/Roth/Wright for some production...

Wr....maybe, if one slides to us we can make do with Hagan as a fulltime starter along with maybe Camarillo..

Cb...yeah, it's deep draft for Cb's, we need one or make do with Lehan and Goodman..we also need a Safety, maybe more then a Cb...

RB..???? that seems a bit off unless a Kevin Smith slides to the 4th or 5th rd...

OL..yes we could use a RT and LG with talent,

No mention of QB or MLB?

MLB would seem to be a priority need at least.

personally I'll look out for the Senior Bowl. Whoever gets my vote will have to dominate there. I think that's more important that work outs. I see Ryan won't appear. Thats a big no-no to me. Dorsey or either of the two Longs probably- if they are on fire next week.

I call them equal.

I mean any guy can have the game of his life at any time, and the senior bowl is only one game. Also as the name implies.....it only has the seniors.

Then you have the combine which just shows how physically able guys are.

Personally I believe that their career of work in college is 70% of the puzzle in most cases, with the other 30% split between senior bowls and combines.

There are exceptions of course, like when a guy plays subpar competition his entire career.
