Mel Phillips: Anyone ever wonder how this man has survived FOUR regime changes?

It's UNHEARD of in today’s NFL for an assistant coach to survive across four coaching changes and essentially THREE different Defensive Schemes! It is clearly a true testament to this mans ability to get it done!

Anyone have any insight in terms of specifics regarding his coaching abilities/tenure?

Good point - but isn't he retiring? I thought I read that somewhere on this board.

I hope not, cause he is obviously a good coach to survive that long. I believe his 21 years with one team is like the 3rd longest in NFL history. 21 out of 25 years a fin thats amazing. Now there my friends is a lifer.

Does anybody know if Phillips was ever considered to be a DC for us or another team? I figured that there would be teams wanting him because of his success he has with us and his experience in the leauge. Now I know he is too old for doing that, but he wasn't about 5-10 years ago. I hope that Phillips doesn't retire this offseason because he was a well respected guy.
